Setting Up a Home School Writing Workshop Event Although it may sound daunting, it’s incredibly easy to set up a day of workshops for home schoolers. Here’s all you do: 1. Determine whether you have the minimum of 30 students for the day in any age group, Grades 3-12. (See Price List for cost per student—parents are free.) 2. Obtain a venue which has a large enough space for a combined keynote address and a room that will accommodate the students in an age-group workshop. A church is usually the best choice, and since you or your group will be responsible for any cost for the use of the space it’s best you find one that will allow you to hold the workshops there free of charge. 3. Choose several possible dates. A weekday is usually best for home school events, as most families seem to have other activities scheduled for Saturdays. 4. Look over the workshop menu and design a day that best fits the needs of the students who will be attending. This is easier when you have an existing home school group, but if you don’t, use your best judgment based on what your kids would most benefit from—chances are, many kids their age will have similar needs. Select four workshops, either by age group or for the whole group for the day. 5. Contact Nancy by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org to set up a phone conference so that we can work out the day’s schedule in a way that works best for you. After that, we will send you a contract outlining the specifics discussed in conference, and once that’s signed, you’re on your way! Please don’t hesitate to contact Nancy by e-mail if you have any questions at all about the above. It’s our joy to provide the best opportunity possible for your students to learn how much fun writing can be!
