									PROJECT PROPOSAL HANDBOOK

2009 Protecting the Environment Award Program

What is this program all about?
Sanitation District No. 1 (SD1) has hosted the Protecting the Environment Award Program since 2003. This year, Walmart has agreed to partner with SD1 to offer funding to schools that want to complete environmental projects. With more funding available, SD1 decided to open up the program for all students from elementary through high school. The program still aims to protect water resources and the environment, but there are a few new twists: Bigger cash awards Selected winners from Northern Kentucky schools will share over $2,500 in cash and prizes! The three schools with the best Project Proposals will receive up to $800 each at the 2009 Protecting the Environment Award Ceremony. New project requirements This year, instead of submitting a project that has already been completed, you may submit a project idea. If your idea is selected, we will provide you with the money to complete the project.

Keep reading to find out how your class or school can win!

Judging Criteria
1. Environmental Impact Projects should have a positive impact on water resources. This could include protecting watersheds, improving local waterways, reducing storm water runoff/pollution, etc. Projects that have additional environmental benefits qualify, but this must be in addition to a protecting water resources theme. Community Impact Projects should have a high community impact, serving or educating residents of Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties. The more people your project impacts the better! Judges will also consider your number of participants. Budget Determine how you could use $800 in funding to complete the project. Timeline Make sure your project can be completed during the 2009-2010 school year and finished no later than Friday, April 9, 2010. Creativity Be creative and think outside the box. The best project idea will win! Feasibility The project you propose must be realistic. The detailed plan is just as important as the idea.
