                                      Drama

Students will understand a variety of dramatic styles

This unit consists of four 50-minute lessons. In using a theme (tomato) the
students will have something tangible, which they can use as a focal point in their
exploration of various dramatic styles. The eccentric nature of the theme will
encourage students to think outside their usual paradigms, therefore challenging
their imaginations. The lessons are categorised in the following way

Lesson one Growing Developing the senses,
                                                           working collaboratively,
                                                              presenting to music.
Lesson two Vaudeville Learning a history,
                                                         Relating in to the present,
                                                         reconstructing practically.
Lesson three The big tomato Developing role and
                                                         character, building a play,
                                                             invoking creativity and
                                                           imagination, presenting
                                                          ideas and freeze frames
Lesson four Critique Introducing critical writing
                                                             and thinking. Practical
                                                            Information technology
                                                                  applications.

This unit of work combines both the practical and the theoretical so that all
students may have an opportunity to respond to some activates competently with
their individual gifts. This combination also allows for students to develop skills
that they may be lacking. They will be able to explore these areas individually
and collectively with the help of their peers and the encouragement of their
                                        abilities.
