The Department has requested a number of amendments to the work programme

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     We propose a survey of a sample of approximately 200 individuals comprising a mix of social workers,

Many of the
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     challenges identified by virtual school heads in relation to supporting looked after children in education
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     are common across all authorities and so the survey would not necessarily need to take place in each of
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     the 11 pilot authorities. We propose face-to-face interviews with childen and foster carers but that for
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     social workers and teachers we could undertake the survey via telephone or on-line. As we want the
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     survey to help identify what has improved or not in terms of professional practice we intend aroung 60%
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     of those questioned to be social workers and teachers, 22% foster carers and 18% young people. We
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     propose that we would undertake the survey in the Spring term of 2008/09. Questions (to be developed
