GLOSSARY

Mini : Mental Illness Needs Index. Calculated using a number of health and social indicators. National average is 100. (higher figure indicates greater need)

Health Spend: Health Spend for each borough is calculated by dividing the annual AMH budget for the borough by the 16 -64 population.

Trimmed Average LOS: Average length of stay excluding outliers <3days and > 90 days

Delayed Discharges: Clients occupying an Acute Adult Mental Health bed who are clinically fit for discharge.

Wards included in AMH are: Clare. Powell and Wharton for Lewisham. Douglas Bennett2, Eileen Skellern 2, Jim Birley Unit and John Dickson for South wark, Lloyd Still, Nelson, Luther King, Eileen Skellern and Aubrey Lewis 3 for Lambeth and Alex Ground, New
Gresham 1 and New Gresham 2 for Croydon.

Readmission Rate: No. of Readmissions / No. of Discharges.

Overspill Placement: Clients who are placed in private sector beds due to unavailability of trust beds.

MDO Placements: Mentally Disordered Offenders who are using a bed in a medium or high secure (specialist) unit.

Primary Care Referrals: Referrals to CMH Teams from a member of the primary care team (only GP referrals are included)

Wait Time for A&E Referrals: The time taken from accepting a referral from the local A&E Service to admission to SLAM bed.

Class A Incidents: These are incidents that result in death or cause such serious harm. These include but are not limited to, homicide/attempte d homicide, sudden and unexpected death and suicide.
Class B Incidents: These are accidents that are not life threatening, but acutely jeopardise the well being of the client. These include but no t limited to allegations of abuse/neglect sexual assault, racial assaults, serious errors of medication, attempted suicide
and unexplained injuries.

ICMHG: Inner Cities Mental Health Group. SLAM is a member of ICMHG group which has a country -wide membership of 22. The KPI Report is based on the set of benchmarks developed by the ICMHG and 'ICMHG averages' displayed are values were taken from
their 2000/01 report.

ISSUES

1 New Ethnicity Code Usage
Data recording of new ethnic category codes began in November 2001. The report indicates an uptake of 89.9% for April '02 to June '02 . Inpatient only.

2 Nursing Agency and Bank Spend
These figures are relate to all areas within the service.

3 Vacancy and Absence
Figures are based on HR data received for April 2002. Establishment and In-Post figures are quoted using work-time equivalents (wte), %Vacancy is the difference between In-Post and Establishment. The %Sickness figure is based upon a 22 day
working month as agreed with the HR Department.

4 CPA Figures
CPA figures this quarter have been produced using a different reporting process, the IM&T Department believes these figures to be more accurate, but we encourage local services to validate these numbers.

5 Caseload Profiles
These figures still remain contenious, some boroughs have supplied their own audited figures. The IM&T Department and the AMH Development Group are developing better processes to produce accurate figures.

6 Seven Day Discharge
'%Seen within 7 days' is calculated by the (number people who require follow-up) / (number of discharges which follow-up is required).
'Follow-up not needed' is the number (and percentage of disharges) of people who do not require follow-up within 7 days.

7 Primary Care Referral
Some boroughs have low figures due to the face that CPA offices can register clients without referral information.

8 OP DNA Rates
This indicator relates to traditional consultant led scheduled out-patient clinics. This Consultant Outpatient Model is no longer employed in some areas of the trust hence the large variations in the number of new referrals reported.

9 A&E Wait Times
Actual figures with precentages have been presented, as requested by the Trust Board.

10 Risk Management
Some data has not yet bet received from the Risk Management office.
