How to host a great dinner party A successful dinner party can be one of the most satisfying events that you are likely to host. If everyone goes home at the end of the evening happy and full of praise for the host, you can say you have achieved your goal. There are several factors to consider when hosting a dinner party. Some of the most important are covered here. Firstly is the most important, the food served. You cannot just serve your favourite meal; you have to take into consideration the needs of your guests. Some may be allergic to certain foods, for example gluten. Other s may have restricted diets due to their religious beliefs, or just plain fussy. This being the case you may have to serve several options for each course of the meal. Also take into consideration the time of year. If the weather is very cold, barbecues and salads are generally not a good idea. Comfort food would suit better. The same applies if the weather is warm. Who wants a roast dinner in the middle of a heat wave? After the food entertaining your guests is a priority. Who wants to prepare a seven course meal, when it means not being able to spend quality time with your guest's? Or you could even tailor your menu so you can prepare your food in advance. Try to get your food to suit your theme of the party. For example if you are having a fun party, with fancy dress or games, make the food quite informal and fun to eat. You could make pizza with funny faces, or garnish your food in a quirky way. Also perhaps make it so the guests don't have to sit in a formal manner. Make it so they can wonder around and mingle with other guests whilst eating if they so desire. If the dinner party is more formal, for example a wedding anniversary, serve your food in a more formal manner. You could put place names, or present your guests with a little gift at the side of their plate. In the more formal situation make sure you serve your food on good table ware. Chipped plates that do not match is not a good idea. If necessary borrow from a friend, or hire. Also make sure your wine glasses are clean and shiny. If your guests do not want an alcoholic drink make sure you can offer them an alternative. If you are on a tight budget go around supermarket close to closing time when they are reducing the prices on perishable goods close to their expiry date, Also if it is an informal party your could ask guests to bring food and drink with them and all have a go at creating some different dishes. All in all though the most important factor is enjoy yourself and don't make it a chore. Parties are about having fun and good time with your friends and relatives.
