Making the conveyance from telepho ne's cultural heritage to that of t he mobile's augmented reality has g enerated as much support from vario us critics, as it has discontent. B ut the fact still remains that for the privileged developed half of th e world, mobiles have become to be viewed as a trendy necessity as wel l as a social networking tool. An electronic telecommunications de vice, the mobile phone or cellular phone, commonly referred to as the "cell," has become one of those per sonal property items that can fit t he criteria of being both a gadget and a tool. Offering its communicat ing services since the early to mid 1980s, the considerably larger ver sion of the mobile phone was perman ently installed in vehicles as car phones. As technological innovation s made miniaturization possible, th e majority now of mobile phones are easily controlled and operated sin gle-handed. Moreover, the standard voice feature has been enhanced wit h additional services, like text me ssaging, camera capabilities, inter net browsing and MMS features for s ending and receiving photos and video. Mainly due to their low establishme nt costs and rapid deployments, mob ile phones have since their first i ntroduction spread rapidly througho ut the world, outstripping the grow th of fixed telephony. From Europe and Australia, to Asia and America, mobile phones are now widely used, with the majority of adults, teena gers and even children now owning a t least one model. Packed with wide ly diverse features, from alarms to teleconference abilities, mobile p hones have set the pace to a new ty pe of communication based culture. But the extreme overload of cell ph ones has not resulted in closer or more genuine communication principl es. Still people, in most cultures, base their business deals and pers onal affiliations to face-to-face i nteraction, leaving mobile telephon y less ground to grow as a meaningf ul type of communication. After all , it is not that different than hav ing a fixed telephone line; the dif ference mainly being that you carry that line whenever you might be. Yet, mobile telephony use has becom e ubiquitous due to the interoperab ility factor telecom networks have endorsed and most have allowed it t o spread across continents. In fewe r than twenty years, mobile phones have indeed gone from being rare an d expensive devices mainly used by businesses, to low-cost, trendy and personal items, used by everyone w ho wishes to have the ability to re ach and be reached by others. But, interestingly enough, sociologists have realized that, as any other ty pe of social networking device, mob ile users began to develop vastly d ifferent practices based on their o wn cultural biases.
