Proposing New Standards
The Guide to Net Benefit, developed by the National Standards Office (NSO) of Standards Australia,
and the Pathways Guide will help proponents prepare a detailed Proposal Form for new and revised
Standards.
These documents and the Proposal Form are available in the Proposing new Standards section of
www.standards.org.au (under Developing Standards) or by calling Standards Australia’s Customer
Information Service on 1800 035 822.
Proposals received for consideration
The following proposals have been received by Standards Australia and are under consideration:
Proponent: David Gray (International Testing and Certification Services P/L, (ITACS))
Committee (if known): EL-004
Subject: Revision of AS/NZS 2053 series - Conduits and fittings for electrical installations
Scope: It is intended AS/NZS 2053 series be reviewed to be aligned with the IEC 61386 series -
Conduit systems for cable management. The review does not intend to alter the tests specified in
the Standard, as these requirements are already aligned with the International Standard.
Proponent: David Gray (International Testing and Certification Services P/L, (ITACS))
Committee (if known): EL-004
Subject: Amendment of AS/NZS 3190:2009 Residual current devices
Scope: It is intended AS/NZS 3190 be amended to align it with the requirements of AS/NZS 3012 -
Electrical installations - Construction and demolition sites and review marking requirements to include
the tripping times as required by medical installations AS/NZS 3003
Proponent: David Gray (International Testing and Certification Services P/L, (ITACS))
Committee (if known): EL-004
Subject: Revision of AS/NZS 60320-1 - Appliance couplers for household and similar general
purposes - General requirements (IEC 60320-1, Ed. 2.0 (2001) MOD
Scope: Requirements for appliance inlets of the 3 pin "emu foot" configuration have been included
into the current revision of AS/NZS 3120 - Cord Extension Sockets, hence there is a need to review
AS/NZS 60320-1 to remove such requirements.
Proponent: David Gray (International Testing and Certification Services P/L, (ITACS))
Committee (if known): EL-004
Subject: Adoption of IEC 60884-1 Plugs and socket-outlets for household and similar purposes -

Proponent: Trevor Tucker (Government of South Australia, Office of the Technical Regulator)
Committee (if known): AG-008
Subject: Review of AS 4647 – 2005 Domestic Diaphragm Gas Meters
Scope: Industry proposes to review the Standard as it is currently a reprint of a 1996 Code which has
become out-of-date with technology, posing a number of difficulties for manufacturers and end-users
in trying to comply with its content yet ensure that latest technologies are addressed.
New Projects
No new projects have been approved for development for the Energy Sector between 4 June and 1
July 2009.
From 1 July 2009 all new projects, including revisions and amendments, irrespective of pathway, will
require stakeholder funding. Costs are negotiated at the outset with a Relationship Manager in
alignment with Standards Australia's pricing model. Due to the impacts of the global financial crisis
on investment returns, the Standards Australia Driven pathway, previously funded and resourced by
Standards Australia has closed.
Drafts for Public Comment
The Drafts for Public Comment stage is an important part of the Standards development process.
Draft Standards documents are circulated for public comment to ensure the wider community of
stakeholders have the opportunity to input to the development of a Standard, to facilitate
collaborative working and to enable Standards Australia to manage comments on draft Standards
originating from Australia.
All comments are considered in detail by the relevant Committee and, if necessary, further drafting is
undertaken.
The full list of drafts for public comment, across all sectors, can also be found by visiting
www.standards.org.au then clicking on Drafts for Public Comment.
Should you wish to comment on a draft please do so by contacting the relevant project manager
whose details are listed below.
