The Interview Process (Optional for BH teachers)
A successful interview is a fact-finding process. Both parties (interviewer and interviewee) can decide if there is a good fit between the interviewee and the position. While the employer is evaluating your skills and abilities, you need to assess your interest in the company and the position. Be an active player. Never be passive in an interview.
Before the Interview Do some research on the industry and the company. Be able to answer why you would want to work for this company. Never be late for an interview. Know your means of transportation and the amount of time required to get there. Plan to arrive early so that you will be relaxed. Dress professionally. Do not wear bright or flashy colors and do not wear strong fragrance. Wear clothing appropriate for the position, company and industry. Bring copies of your resume and references.
During the Interview
Greet interviewer with a firm handshake. Maintain good eye contact. Smile. Project your voice. (Practice if you need to.) Show your enthusiasm. Don’t look intimidated or nervous. Ask questions when appropriate. You may refer to pre-written questions. Take notes if you want to. Ask for a business card.
After the Interview
Write a thank-you letter to emphasize your interest in this position and show how you best qualify. Add to the list any questions you had difficulty in answering and practice them before the next interview. Weigh the pros and cons of this job to determine if it is a good match for you
