Tips to deal with the media IN THE LEAD UP TO YOUR EVENT ABC Local Radio is a major partner of WA’s Giant Walk and each local radio station is keen to know more about local events. Contact your local ABC to let them know about what you are planning in your local region. Complete the Community Service Announcement template on the website and send it through to your local ABC radio station. Perhaps you can arrange get the local newspaper to take a photograph of people getting prepared for the event. Picture ideas include the event organisers or your local mayor or identity peering into the 2006 Guinness World Record book, marking of the course or getting into the spirit of the event by simply walking. Be sure to give them plenty of notice! A Media Release template (that can be released to your local news outlets on the day) will be posted on the website two weeks prior to the event. ABC Local Radio stations are broadcasting a countdown to the walk on each of the regional stations. Perhaps you can invite local personalities to attend your event and phone back to the stations for a live broadcast.
