                   GAINS COVETED ‘THIRD GOBLET’
                IN AUSTRALIAN GOURMET TRAVELLER
               2009 AUSTRALIAN RESTAURANT GUIDE

Barossa Valley, 28 August 2008 --- Australian Gourmet Traveller Magazine released its
annual guide to the top restaurants in the country, awarding South Australia’s Appellation
restaurant in the Barossa Valley with a much sought-after ‘Third Goblet’ in the 2009 ranking.
Appellation moved up for the third year in a row in national standings and retains its two star
food and service rating. The restaurant is one of only three in South Australia to make the
top tier (top 50 out of the top 100 in the country).

The only national restaurant guide, and as such comparable to the guides published by
Michelin in Europe and several major US markets, the Australian Gourmet Traveller 2009
Australian Restaurant Guide defines a two-star, three-goblet rating for a restaurant as “A
genuinely superior dining experience and worth of a detour. Put simply, these restaurants
boast the finest, broadest, most mouth-watering wine lists in the country.” Within the top-
100 named restaurants highlighted in the Guide, only 26 were awarded the three-goblet
accolade, placing Appellation in the company of Tetsuya’s, Aria, Absynthe, Jacques Reymond
and Taxi as having the highest rating for wine. Appellation was the only South Australia
restaurant out of the top-100 to receive the three-goblet accord.

In commenting about Appellation, the 2009 Guide review states, “Appellation has
developed great finesse and harmony in its delivery of top-end dining… seamless
service… a benchmark in wine-region dining.”

Commenting on this recognition, proprietor James Carreker responded, “Appellation has
become a beacon for food and wine lovers throughout Australia and the world. The entire
Appellation team, headed by executive chef Mark McNamara, head chef Karen Roesler,
restaurant manager Ruby Stobart and sommelier Mathew McNamara are honoured by this
and other recent accolades and flurry of recognition received at both the state and national
level.

Appellation is co-located with The Louise luxury vineyard retreat, a member of Small Luxury
Hotels of the World and winner of the 2007 Qantas National Tourism Award for luxury
accommodation. Dine and Stay packages are available by contacting
