AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM: Help manage the finances of the popular after school classes. Ongoing commitment. AMBASSADOR PROGRAM: Oversee the mentor program (4th and 5th graders) designed to benefit 1st graders and to help ease their transition onto the big playground. BEAUTIFICATION & PRIDE DAY: Organize volunteers to improve the school’s landscape with new plants. Organize volunteers to maintain watering throughout the school year and over the summer. Pride Days held on the Sunday before school starts and on one other day in the spring. BLOOD DRIVE: Help Red Cross professional organize the annual American Red Cross Blood Drive at Grand View. Spring Commitment. BOOK FAIR: For those of you who love books!!! Plan and staff this literary fundraiser, which features popular and educational books for all ages. October through December commitment. BOX TOPS 4 EDUCATION & TYSON A+ PROGRAM: this year round fundraiser. Coordinate box top collection for
COMMUNITY OUTREACH: Coordinate appropriate charitable outreach efforts for Grand View to contribute to the community. Ongoing commitment. COMPUTER LAB: Assist students with various activities in the Computer Lab. Approximately an hour every week. EARTH CLUB: Assist students with various projects related to environmental preservation like Beach Clean-up and Recycling Contest. FAMILY FUN & MOVIE NIGHT: Organize food and entertainment for this back-to-school fun event. Fall commitment. GATOR 5K RUN/WALK: Plan the annual fun-run and huge fun-draiser. The revenue from this event helps support many programs including PE, music, and library staff. March through June commitment for June event. GATOR GAZETTE REPORTER & EDITOR: Maintain interesting and appropriate news on our weekly newsletter. Proofread all submissions prior to producing the Gazette using Microsoft Word then uploading and sending to Grand View parents. Weekly commitment. GROWING GREAT NUTRITION: Coordinate and oversee docents for the 3rd through 5th grade Growing Great nutrition lessons. Coordinate and oversee the school wide harvest of the month program at lunchtime in the cafeteria. This nutrition program teaches our children about the benefits of eating healthy foods. HALLWAY DISPLAYS: Keep our hallway display cases and bulletin boards attractive and filled with interesting displays. Ongoing commitment. HISTORIAN: page report. HALLOWEEN/PUMPKIN RACES: Conceptualize a booth for this new Manhattan Beach community event: the sky’s the limit. HOMETOWN FAIR: Plan and coordinate Grand View’s Tri Tip Booth at the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair. Planning is done in September for this early October community event. HOSPITALITY: Plan the back-to-school luncheon for our teachers and PTA, and organize Teacher Appreciation Week buffets. Ongoing commitment and open for new ideas. LEGISLATIVE SUPPORT: Assist with voter registration campaigns, and other related activities. LIBRARY: Help the librarian keep the collection in order and assist the children with their selections. Coordinate library volunteers. Ongoing commitment. MATH TILES: Assist students in class with this weekly activity. Approximately an hour every week. PANCAKE BREAKFAST: Plan and staff this back-to-school Grand View tradition: an oldfashioned family style breakfast with your friends, neighbors and teachers. September commitment. PARENT PARTY: Organize our fun and social Parent Party and auction fundraiser. February/March event. PERFORMING ARTS CENTER: Assist with various activities related to the Performing Arts, including simple set design, costumes, organizing props, lighting and sound system setup.
PLANET PALS: Increase students’ and parents’ environmental awareness through various activities, including these below: TRASH FREE TUESDAYS: This weekly lunchtime activity involves giving students positive reinforcement for bringing trash-free lunches; and providing guidance with Lunchtime recycling, and composting. WALK TO SCHOOL PROGRAM: This involves activities related to encouraging walking to school like handing out stickers to students. On-going commitment. A great parent and student activity.
READING CLUB: Organize our book club for kids in grades 3 through 5. October through May commitment. REFLECTIONS & NEPTUNIAN WOMEN’S CLUB ART COMPETITIONS: Send out information about and the themes for these art competitions open to all students in Manhattan Beach schools. Find volunteers to help collect artwork and appoint judges for the Reflections contest. September through January/February commitment. ROOM PARENT: Assist the teacher with various student activities throughout the year. SAFETY/HEALTH: Help with the various health programs during the year such as: dental screenings and vision/hearing tests. Be available to help with arising safety concerns. Ongoing commitment.

SCHOOL GARDEN: Get your hands dirty planting, weeding and harvesting with the kids in our wonderful organic vegetable garden! Oversee and coordinate the harvest and the annual Farmers Market. Ongoing commitment. SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE: Involves obtaining teacher supply lists, and ordering the supplies through an organization such as Innisbrook. The supplies are delivered to Grand View and get dispersed to the teachers the first day of school. No more schlepping from store to store! Spring commitment. SCIENCE EXPO: Organize this hands-on science event for the whole family. Book several shows and plan setting up of the interactive experiments. Science projects are on display from the PEP through 4th graders. Fall through winter commitment. SCIENCE FAIR: Plan, set up, supervise and break down our annual two-day 5th grade Science Fair. May commitment for this early June event. SCIENCE LEARNING LAB LIASON: Coordinate and oversee science assemblies and workshops across all grade levels. Coordinate science lab volunteers by grade level. Fall commitment. SCIENCE L EARNING LAB: Assist students with fun hands-on activities as directed by the Science Specialist. An hour commitment every other week. SCRIP: This is one of our LARGEST and most IMPORTANT revenue generating programs!!! MANAGER: Oversee the entire scrip program, including the Scrip Table volunteers and the Monthly Standing Order fills. Maintain the scrip pages on the GVPTA website. SPRING FAIR/GRAND VIEW FIESTA: Grand View’s BIGGEST FUNDRAISER! MANAGER: Plan and orchestrate our popular annual one-day Spring Fair! Many related chair positions available. We need all talents and loads of volunteers for this very fun event. January through May commitment for May event. SILENT AUCTION: Plan and organize fundraising efforts and coordinate the silent auction for the Spring Fair. January through May commitment. CLASSROOM ART PROJECTS: Organize the classroom art projects for the silent auction at the Spring Fair. January through May commitment. STUDENT DIRECTORY: October commitment. STUDENT STORE: Manage and help staff the student store (buying, stocking, and selling). Open Fridays after school 1:30 until 3:30. Ability to count change backwards a plus. General love of all children a MUST! Ongoing commitment. TECHNOLOGY EXPERT: Supervise the purchasing and installation of computer and computer related hardware and software. Ongoing commitment. TEACHER ADMIN. WORK ASSISTANT: Teacher directed activities based on class needs. VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS: Schedule and oversee the visual and performing arts events for all grade levels and steer curriculum to fulfill VAPA standards. These assemblies/events emphasize standards established by the California Department of Education for dance, music, theater, and the visual arts. As much of the VAPA curriculum is in place, this position is predominately administrative. Ongoing commitment. WEBMASTER: A technical wizard to keep the GVPTA website running, periodically evaluating the site to meet the PTA’s informational needs. Ongoing commitment.
