Volunteer Job Descriptions
Position Title: Shorebird Project Ambassador Reports To: Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife staff Overview of Position: Serve as an Ambassador for the Delaware Shorebird Project and Delaware’s natural resources to the general public. Specific Tasks: 1. Table at public education events 3. Assist in development of education materials 4. Assist in a communal living and research environment with meal duties when applicable 5. Have a talent? Use photography, writing or other media to record research activities (optional) Time Required: minimum three days of work Qualifications: Experience speaking to youth and/or adult audiences preferred. Enthusiasm for natural resources required. Physical/Age requirement: 18 or above. Ability to withstand heat and biting insects. Skills/Education: background in sciences, education, outreach, public speaking or media preferred. Training Required: One full day of training held April 9 and April 29 at the Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve in Dover, Delaware. Other: Must have a positive team spirit and willingness to learn. Benefits to Volunteer: Experience working with an international team of expert researchers and volunteers. Significant field ornithology experience gained and resume items accrued. Ability to witness the shorebird migration and horseshoe crab phenomenon first hand.
