3-10 CITY OF KINGS MOUNTAIN (Gaston Portion)
     HAZARD MITIGATION STRATEGIES

The City of Kings Mountain accepts agrees with the Hazard Mitigation Goals as outlined by
Gaston County. To meet these Goals the following are Hazard Mitigation Strategies specific to
the Gaston County portion of the City of Kings Mountain. These strategies were identified and
compiled by the City of Kings Mountain from participation in the Cleveland County Hazard
Mitigation Plan.

Footnotes:
A. The City of Kings Mountain accepts the description of the hazard by the County and adds the following information to further describe water supply issues within the area.
Kings Mountain uses Moss Lake as its main water supply. Kings Mountain has an emergency supply connection with Bessemer City.

B. The City of Kings Mountain accepts the description of the hazard provided by the County and would add that the City has snow and ice equipment within the Public Works and
Utility Departments for responding to this type of hazard and has an emergency procedure for just such events. Kings Mountain also operates its own electric utility and is
generally able to minimize power outages within its service area. The City also maintains a Priority Customer Notification list for citizens in which electrical service is critical to
their health. The City’s Police Department along with other departments keep these citizens informed when bad weather is pending and of the status of any power outages.

C. The City of Kings Mountain’s Electric, Police and Fire Departments have mutual aid agreement and these may be enacted dependent upon the severity a hazard.
