The goal of the Foundation through its grants program is to respond to community needs in the most effective and innovative ways possible. We believe in establishing partnerships with other companies, foundations and community-based organizations to jointly promote community wellbeing. Applicants may telephone or submit a letter of intent briefly describing a project before submitting a proposal in order to ascertain if their project is potentially fundable by the Foundation. Support to a non-profit organization or institution in any one year does not indicate a precedent for future support. Organizations Eligible to Receive Funding: Organizations and institutions must be tax exempt under Section 501(c)3 of the U. S. Internal Revenue Code. Organizations and institutions must be providing services in the following areas: • • • • • Health and Human Services The Environment Education Arts and Culture Civic Ineligible to Receive Funding: • Political, labor and fraternal organizations, churches and religious institutions (except where such organizations or institutions are providing services, as noted above, to the community at large) • Sporting events, trips and festivals • Organizations or institutions supported by the United Way • Organizations or institutions which discriminate on the basis of race, sex or religion. In applying for grants, use the Freeport-McMoRan Foundation grant proposal application form. Summary statement (brief history, mission, goals) The specific purpose of the funds requested The need for the project in the community The amount requested A detailed report of how the money will be spent A detailed copy of the latest annual operating budget A statement advising how the grant, if made, can be evaluated and/or methods to be used for evaluation of the effectiveness List the Board of Directors A copy of the organization's Internal Revenue Service federal tax exempt letter 501(c)3 Identify any collaborative efforts in progress or anticipated Notification Regarding Application: Decisions regarding funding requests will be made not later than the end of February each year. Each request is reviewed against its conformity to program priorities and available resources. Decisions made by the trustees are final.
