RSVP VITA ‐ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

FREE Electronic Filing & Computerized Returns Prepared for Eligible Clients WHO IS ELIGIBLE? VITA is a free tax service for clients of any age with household income under $50,000 h Clients with complex/lengthy returns may be referred to paid tax preparers h Non‐English‐speaking clients need to bring an interpreter h Spanish‐speaking clients may call the following numbers for additional information: Orange County ‐ 245‐2010 Chatham County ‐ 742‐1448 h Appointments for the homebound or disabled can be made by special arrangement. How and When Do I Make an Appointment?

· · · · · · Appointments must be made in advance. As soon as you know you want to use the VITA service, call to make an appointment. No appointment reminder will be sent. Call if you must cancel your appointment. Each return is allotted one hour. Starting early will allow time to find any documents that might be missing. If you arrive for your appointment without information needed to prepare your taxes, you may have to reschedule. Clients with complex/lengthy returns may be referred to paid tax preparers. Clients without appointments will only be served if time permits and there is an open appointment. Hospital and home visits can be arranged for the homebound or disabled. h Before your appointment m ORGANIZE your documents and TOTAL up receipts by category. m If your information is not complete, you may have to schedule another appointment. h Bring all the documents listed below if applicable. m Last year’s return (this is very important) m W‐2 forms m Amount of Economic Stimulus Payment received in 2008 m All 1099 forms for interest, dividends, social security income, retirement income m Medical receipts already totaled up m Phone number where you can be reached day and night m Receipts or evidence of taxes paid, contribution amounts and recipients, mortgage interest paid m Taxpayer Identification Cards for self and all dependents · Social security numbers are required for ALL dependents being claimed on your tax return. · If you/your dependents do not have SSNs, you/they must have Individual Tax ID Numbers (ITIN). m Any and all information you receive from the IRS in 2008
