Free English Language Support is available for all non-English speaking applicants. www.accesstoindustry.co.uk How to Apply 3 MEDIA AND DESIGN The course will take you through a range of practical work where you can: • Get up to speed on all the different new technologies – MP3’s, Downloads, HD-DVD. STARTS: September 2006 until Jan 2007. SUPPORT: Support may be available to help with childcare and stationery costs and throughout the course you will have the assistance of a support worker. • Use Sound,Video, or Computers to create a multimedia product – for example, an interactive web page. • Work with others on a range of practical projects plus we’ll provide some free visits to galleries and exhibitions. By the end of the course, you will have built up a portfolio of work that should take you onto a further-level course. We’ll support you with extra help and advice and resolve any problems to get you started. The course is SQA accredited and is delivered by Edinburgh’s Telford College. MOVING ON: If you successfully complete the course you will gain National Units from the SQA and are guaranteed places on NC level courses at Edinburgh’s Telford College. Throughout the course we will prepare you for the move on into Further Education. Prepare for Media and Design It's a simple and direct route into Further Education. • No formal entry qualifications are required just an enthusiasm for Media and Design. Eligibility criteria apply. This is a practical six month course, which means you’ll be mostly ‘hands-on’ using video and audio equipment to create mini films, audio clips and web pages. By the end you will have created a collection of bits of media and design work, which will give you your portfolio - essential to moving into Higher Education. 5 GRAPHIC DESIGN Design for Life ACCESS TO GRAPHIC DESIGN Graphic Design The course will take you through a range of practical projects where you will learn how to: • Work through the design process. • Use images with text, graphic software and work with different materials and mediums. The course involves the following: • Introduction to Computer Applications • Introduction to Graphic Design • Design using Desk Top Publishing Throughout the year, you will also get the chance to build up your ‘core skills’ – essential in any industry. And, of course, you will be given full support and guidance from your tutor and the learning Support Team. You will also get the opportunity to take part in activities organised by Edinburgh College of Art, so that by the end of the course you will have built up a portfolio of work that will guarantee an interview for a higher-level course. It's a simple and direct route into Further & Higher Education. • No formal entry qualifications are required just an enthusiasm for Graphic Design. Eligibility criteria apply. STARTS: The course will run from September 2006 until June 2007 and is divided into 2 terms. MOVING ON: If you successfully complete the course you will gain National Units from the Scottish Qualification Authority and are guaranteed progression at Edinburgh’s Telford College on a higher level graphic / digital design course. Throughout the course we will prepare you for the move on into Higher Education. If you are interested in learning how to take the first step to becoming one, then this is the course for you. Graphic design is all around us! From posters, magazines, labels and packaging, to sweets, drinks, trainers and clothes – a graphic designer will have been involved! On the Music Production Technology course we do just what the pro’s do. Covering all types of Computer-based music, from hip-hop through house and techno to drum & bass – even ambient and hi-tech pop. K BACK ON NEW INTA07E 06 -20 TRACK 20 Music Production Technology The course will take you through a range of practical projects where you will learn: • How the artists and mixers – of your choice – create and remix tracks, and how they get that sound. STARTS: September 2006 - June 2007 SUPPORT: Support may be available to help with childcare and stationery costs and throughout the course you will have the assistance of a support worker. • How to write your own tracks using industry standard software such as Reason 2.5 and Cubase SX2. MOVING ON: • Subjects including MIDI, recording techniques, music technology and keyboards. By the end of the course you should be able to write and record an entire track, as well as being aware of the working of the music business. Throughout the year, you will also get the chance to build up your ‘core skills’ – essential in any industry.
