COMPLETING YOUR TIMESHEET/DAILY LOG Please complete a timesheet form for each week. On days that you do not work indicate the reason you did not work. If the time off was taken for personal reasons, indicate your plan for making up the time. (Please type or write legibly.) The codes at the bottom of the form provide ideas about what we are expecting and may be helpful in keeping the description of your activities concise. In the description of your work please provide as much detail as possible. For instance, rather than Motion or Memo, say Draft Motion or Memo and indicate the subject of the motion or memo--e.g. a Motion to Dismiss. Instead of "various writing projects", tell us whether you were drafting, revising, or researching? We are interested in what you are actually doing--not a description of the end project. For each task please indicate the time spent on each task, not just the total hours for the day. Please make copies of this form as needed. The purpose of the timesheet is twofold: 1) to ensure that the student is fulfilling the duties of an extern, and 2) to help evaluate the placement. An externship is the same as any other academic course in that credit can only be awarded for satisfactory performance. In making that evaluation, the faculty member needs to be assured that the student has worked for the appropriate number of weeks and that the work was satisfactory. To determine whether the work was satisfactory, we rely mainly on the evaluation by the placement supervisor, but we also consider the samples of the student work (if confidentiality concerns permit), information gained from the on-site visits, and information gained from reviewing the timesheets about the work the student has performed during the externship. You will not be awarded credit for the placement art of the externship unless the timesheets are submitted in a timely fashion. Timesheets are due on the dates indicated on the bottom of the form.
