Comparative Tables – Notes and Sources
Notes Purchasing power parity (PPP) Gross domestic product (GDP) Currency conversion rate that eliminates the difference between the price levels of countries and therefore differs from the nominal exchange rate used for current transactions. The unduplicated value of the goods and services produced in the economic territory of a country or region during a given period, regardless of the nationality of the producer. The diplomatic missions and national armed forces stationed abroad are included, whereas the diplomatic missions and foreign armed forces on national territory are excluded. For many non-OECD countries, the data for the most recent year are taken from projections or forecasts. GDP is broken down by expenditure or income. GDP by industry does not include the entire GDP. A measure of GDP change with the effects of price removed. The forecasts are taken from the IMF's World Economic Outlook for all countries, or the OECD Economic Outlook for OECD member countries, and from Finances Québec's Budget Plan , Prebudget Consultations and Update on Québec's Economic and Financial Situation for Québec. These forecasts are provided solely as trend indicators. In no case does the Institut de la statistique du Québec give any opinions on their accuracy or regarding any forecasts from other sources. Personal income is the sum of all incomes and current transfers received by persons and unincorporated businesses. Investment income is included and capital gains or losses are excluded. Personal disposable income is personal income minus income taxes, contributions to social insurance plans, and other current transfers to governments. Due to the differences in income structure in each society and in the estimation methodologies of each country, the data are only partially comparable. Calculated using the financial account of the balance of payments, total investment includes direct investment, portfolio investment, financial derivatives and other investments, and excludes reserve assets. Private and public expenditures in residential and non-residential construction, and in machinery and equipment (excluding repairs). The exports and imports included in the gross domestic product encompass all transactions in goods and services between the residents of the GDP territory and non-residents (residents of other territories). Exports and imports of goods based on GDP differ from those based on customs data. Moreover, in the case of Québec, GDP estimates trade with the rest of Canada and other countries, while custom-based data only covers products that cross the Canadian border.
