WELCOME to THE GOAT GAZETTE, recipient of the GTOAA’s
“Certificate of Chapter Newsletter Excellence” for seven consecutive years…2002 - 2009.
This is the official newsletter of the Northeast Indiana GTO’s, Inc. (NEIGTO’s). The purpose of this
newsletter is to keep its membership informed of upcoming events and meeting times and to promote
the preservation of the Pontiac GTO. The views expressed in this newsletter are not necessarily those
of the entire membership. Comments, suggestions, and articles are always welcome!

           Counting down 2009 ~ the Best & Worst…
It’s hard to believe that 2009 is quickly coming to a close!
Where do the years go? It seems just like yesterday that we
                                            were worrying about Y2K!
To look back on 2009, we would have to say there were a lot
of ups and downs, but unfortunately we probably think of the
downs first. The poor economy has affected all of us and…
especially its part it played in the demise of the Pontiac Division
at General Motors. There were other factors that had a part in
Pontiac’s demise, but the sad part is that Pontiac is no longer
the name or division it once was.
There were some good things 2009 brought…the first Co-

great one it was (see the September/October Goat Gazette as
our NEIGTO club was well represented at the Co-vention); the

40 Anniversary of the GTO Judge; and the 22 Anniversary
year of our own NEIGTO Club.
Another good...or funny thing in 2009 was this true story that
happened to NEIGTOer Jim Andrews which he emailed out on
August 20 . Jim wrote…“So I‟m at the gas station filling up my

                                            Torino Obligato. Sweet.‟” Jim’s email response…“Dude. Not
quite.” NEIGTO President Jay Konkle’s reply to the story…“So
                                            it‟s a Fordiac…? Nice…!” Hope 2009 ends well for you!

family. The family consists of a single father, who will soon be deployed in the military, with a small
child and a baby. Please bring specific items that you signed up to bring. If you were not at the
November meeting, please bring non-perishable food items, personal health items, or monetary gifts or
gift cards for the family to the December 6 Christmas Party. Dick Watermolem will confirm the

Report from Saturday, October 10th, 2009 NATMUS Cruise In Event…
NEIGTO Special Events Coordinator Dick Watermolen reports that two club families brought cars and
that 4 other club members came to the event. The afternoon was nice weather-wise and there was a
Mystery Cruise at 4:00 PM. No official meeting was held.

Minutes from September 13th, 2009 Meeting…
Members met at Ken & Nancy Lichtle’s home where the club had a short meeting before caravanning
to Arnold’s Drive In Restaurant located in Decatur, IN.
President Jay Konkle called the meeting to order at 2:15 PM The treasurer’s report was given by
Treasurer Mike Koeneman. A discussion was held about various events coming up in the future.
Jay showed a DVD of 3 separate cars that will be auctioned off or are for sale: a ’64 Banshee – the
only one in existence with a value of one million dollars; a ’67 GTO - one of two exist that was a shoe
store promo prize with a value of $367,000 and “The Great One” by Tom McCann is listed on the car;
and a ’69 Trans Am – a three owner car valued at $370,000 from Houston, TX. Also reported…600
cars were at the Auburn Festival Friday Night Cruise In that our club participated in a few weeks ago
on Labor Day weekend.
There was no old business. New business consisted of events that are listed in last month’s Goat
Gazette newsletter. A flyer was sent around with details about the October 10 NATMUS Cruise In
event. Our club members are encouraged to attend this as a club event and meeting will be held if
enough attend.
The club voted to again sponsor a Christmas family this yea in December. We voted to spend $250
from the club. Members will donate food, household, and clothing items, and at the November Carol
Koeneman will have a list of clothes and household items the family could use.
Dan & Kathy Lyvers were welcomed at the meeting. The meeting was dismissed at 2:40 PM. Then all
caravanned to Arnolds Drive In Restaurant and ate together outside. It was good to see Andy &
DeeDee and their almost grown kids. The weather was beautiful and it was great to hear the engines
and smell the rubber some folks as they left the restaurant parking lot for home…
Respectfully submitted,
Ann Hughes, NEIGTO Secretary
