                                    GENERAL INFORMATION

The information that follows is for your benefit so that you may do your best in the pageant.

     1. No family members or friends will be allowed backstage or in the dressing room the
night of the pageant for any reason. You will have a hostess backstage to assist you with
        costumes, swimsuits, etc...

2. Dress rehearsal is closed; only contestants and Miss Jewel Pageant Staff are allowed to
attend. Be sure to bring all competition clothing, shoes, etc. to dress rehearsal.
Everything that you intend to wear on stage for the pageant must be worn on stage at
           dress rehearsal.

3. The pageant producer, director, and or field director MUST approve ALL swimsuits,
talent costumes, and eveningwear. If you have questions about swimsuits prior to dress
rehearsal, please contact April. Bring two of them if they are in question.

     4. Wear all competition clothes (interview outfit, swimsuit and shoes, eveningwear and
shoes, talent outfit) prior to dress rehearsal and pageant night. Wear your gown and
shoes and swimsuit around the house. (This may sound crazy but it is important for
you to be and look comfortable in these; especially on stage.)

     5. Have scissors, pins, needles, and thread (to match your clothing) in the event of an
emergency. Try to have sturdy zippers in your gowns. Nylon zippers tend to
              break.

     6. We will have some racks. However, depending on the number of contestants, there
may not be enough. Bring a mirror and strip plug for rollers, flatirons, etc. Come
prepared with what you are used to using.

     7. Keep a copy of EVERYTHING (fact sheet, accompaniment cds for rehearsals, etc...)

     8. Label EVERYTHING including garment bags, shoes and makeup.

     9. There will be three judges and the decision of the judges will be final. No results will
be discussed with contestants. The judge’s ballots and tally sheets will be maintained
in the possession of the auditors and will not be disclosed to the members of the Miss
              Jewel, or anyone else.

     10. Don’t try any new makeup, medicine, etc. during Pageant week.

     11. Again, check your calendar for all pertinent dates, deadlines, rehearsals, etc.

     12. Make-up: Babies -12 years old may not wear makeup. Clear gloss is fine. NO hair
pieces allowed. Judges are instructed to make deductions if make up or hair piece are
detected. All other contestant’s may wear age appropriate make-up 13 should look 13

judges are individuals and we cannot control how they judge. All judges’ decisions
are final. We use qualified/professional judges. We are very confident in their ability
      to judge fairly and professionally.

15. Score Sheets: You will receive your score sheets before leaving the pageant. We feel
that this is how you can learn and grow in your pageant experience.

                                  MISS CONTESTANTS

In order to compete in the Miss Jewel pageant you must complete your requirement by April17,
2010.
                                  Wardrobe Guidelines
Provided below are guidelines for the wardrobe you will need to participate in the 2010
Miss Jewel Pageant.

Interview
You should select an outfit that would be appropriate for a job interview, which also
reflects your personality, and is age appropriate. For example - suits, dresses, pants
outfits or skirts. You will be close to the judges in the interview room and do not need
stage makeup but light make up is suggested.

Opening Number
Any type of jeans with a dressy top(preferably beaded, sequins, rhinestones). The
theme is “Animals are your Friends”. The outfit should reflect your personality.

On-stage Question
You will be judged in your on-stage question wearing your interview outfit or Evening
Wear – we will let you know when we find out how many contestants are in the pageant.

Talent
Wear something appropriate for your talent. The rules of good taste should prevail.
Remember that stage lights are strong and you need to make sure you have sufficient
lining with any talent outfit. Props are discouraged unless absolutely necessary.

Fitness/Swimsuit
Your personal choice is the top consideration for the swimsuit competition. There are no
specific guidelines. You may choose a 1 or 2 piece swimsuit. No thongs or string bikinis
are permitted. Just be confident your suit will fit the family-oriented presentation.

Evening Wear
Contestants are allowed to wear any type of Evening Wear – pants, cocktail dresses, or
the traditional gown. Shoes and jewelry should coordinate with the ensemble. Again,
good taste should dictate your choice.
LIFESTYLE AND FITNESS IN SWIMSUIT (Miss)

1. Each contestant may compete either barefoot or shoes/sandals.
2. Each contestant has her choice of a one swimsuit of any style.
3. The swimsuit cannot be a thong or string bikini. ―Good taste‖ should prevail. Be confident that
your suit will fit the family-oriented presentation. If not, you will be asked to change.
4. No hosiery or oil may be worn during the swimsuit competition.
5. Remember there is no group judging in swimsuit. Each of you will be judged on your own
merits.
6. Remember your swimsuit MUST BE APPROVED.

Teen Sportswear - aerobic wear, fitted sportswear, etc… Judges must be able to clearly see
physical fitness. Sportswear.

PRESENCE AND POISE IN EVENING WEAR

   1. During the eveningwear competition, you may wear either eveningwear (i.e., pants,
cocktail dresses, etc.) or the traditional gown. ALL EVENING WEAR MUST BE
APPROVED No gloves are permitted in the eveningwear competition.

Please fill out form entitled “Intros for competitions” that you want read during these
phases. This can be downloaded from the zip file under your appropriate age link.
                                             TALENT

The first thing that you must do is to select your talent. Talent numbers cannot be duplicated.
They are approved on a first come-first served basis.

1. You must have your talent selected by the deadline. NO EXCEPTIONS AND NO
CHANGES!! Turn in your talent request as soon as possible to ensure that you get the talent
that you want. There will be no duplication of talents.

   2. Your talent must be live. If you used taped accompaniment and you lip-sync, you must
disclose the artist’s name on the recording and there can be no illusion that you are
      singing.

   3. If your talent is a presentation of your art, such as painting or sewing, you must be
prepared to present authentication upon request.

4. It is a good idea to bring a duplicate copy of any accompaniment tapes or cds to rehearsals.
Your tape/CD and case must be labeled with your name and contestant number. It is your
responsibility to collect your tapes/CDs after the pageant from the sound technician. Miss
Jewel Pageant Officials are not responsible for tapes/CDs that are not picked up on
pageant night.

5. Talent counts 35% so make sure that you have a quality tape/CD that is a broadcast quality.
Also, instruct those making your tape that it cannot exceed 2:00 minutes in time. Please ask if
       you have questions about this.

6. Your talent act cannot include props that are not absolutely necessary for the act. You cannot
use props that could be hazardous to you, the stage crew, or the audience. (i.e. snakes, knives,
fire) NO LIVE ANIMALS ARE ALLOWED. No part of your costume (jacket, skirt, etc....)
can be removed on stage during your talent.

7. If technical difficulties prevent a contestant from performing any phase of competition,
fairness dictates that she may be allowed to restart. The decision for the restart will be made with
consultation of the producer and the judges.

8. Only Miss Jewel Pageant Officials will be allowed backstage or in the dressing rooms. No
one will be allowed onstage during your talent performances.

9. ALL TALENT COSTUMES ARE TO BE APPROVED BY THE MISS JEWEL
      PAGEANT BOARD.

Talent request forms need to be downloaded from website and submitted with all
paperwork.
Music for Talent
Talent and Background Enchantments
In recent years, many contestants have taken advantage of the rule, which allows for
BACKGROUND vocals, instrumentation, etc.
That ―taking advantage‖ includes instrumentalist and tap dancers using the instrument they play
as well as tap dancers using additional taps on their accompaniment tape to enhance their
performance.
Regardless of the talent performed, the background tape cannot have voices, instrumentation, or
other noises, which mimic the talent of the contestant. (Example: A vocalist may have
background vocals with "oohs and aahs‖ or other background lyrics, but cannot have a tape with
a voice singing the melody line for the contestant sing along with.

The same would be said for instrumentalist, dancers, and any other talent, which could provide
for an unfair advantage if a judge could not delineate from the talent on the track versus the live
perforce of the contestant.)
                              Miss Jewel Talent Guidelines
These guidelines are designed to provide you with the information you need to perform at the
Miss Jewel Pageant.
