ACG Continues in China with June 2008 Private Equity Forum By Patrick Hurley, ACG CIPEF Chair Make plans now to join hundreds of your ACG colleagues at the second annual China International Private Equity Forum in Tianjin, China, June 10 – 12, 2008. Last year’s event was nothing short of spectacular and this year will be even better. There is no better way for you to interact with Chinese companies and investment professionals from around the world to understand China better and how to make it work for you. Whether you are new to China or a seasoned hand, this event is a valuable opportunity to deepen your understanding so that you can make better decisions. Tianjin and ACG offer this highly efficient platform for you to a) identify Chinese candidates for strategic investment (direct corporate or private equity investment, and private equity investment through Western-based PEG portfolio companies), b) establish contacts with a wide variety of advisors and market players in China, and c) forge relationships with Chinese private equity investors as well as prospective corporate buyers and sellers. ACG co-hosted CIPEF 2007 in Tianjin which earned rave reviews throughout Asia and drew 4,500 corporate executives, government officials and investment professionals for a three day event. It included an ACG Capital Connection, the China M&A Association annual meeting, panel programs on topics ranging from deal sourcing to due diligence and monitoring strategic investments in China. ACG’s and Tianjin’s third partner, the All China Federation of Industry & Commerce, screens and draws Chinese companies from across the country to the event. There were executives from over 1,000 carefully selected Chinese industrial, consumer product and service companies last year interacting with private equity, corporate development and deal community professionals from North America and Europe. ACG was represented well in all categories. Private equity groups in our contingent included Andlinger, Audax, Blue Point, CCMP, Carlyle, ChinaVest, Hammond Kennedy, HSBC Private Equity, Jordan, MidMark and Silkroad. PEG portfolio companies in attendance included Alaris, Energy Conversion and Salzer. Strategic corporates there included Ametek, Brady, Componus, Danaher, General Electric, Kennemetal and Novartis. Many of the major law and accounting firms participated, as well as investment bankers from Agio Asia, Baird Asia and Quam. ACG’s contingent was 232 in total. We’ve formed a CIPEF 2008 Working Group of ACG members from around the world to help design the event program and recruit participants for the panels as well as promote the event throughout ACG’s system. Others are welcome to join us, so just let me know phurley@mmadvisors.com if you would like to become involved. The ACG Capital Connection format at the event is broader than in North America and Europe. All ACG attendees are welcome to have a table for the Capital Connection without any additional charge. Meetings with Chinese companies and others can be pre-scheduled or arranged throughout the event for you to have private sessions with contacts of particular interest. The more you put into this, the more you would get out of it. Logistics are made easy by ACG. We provide flight information and discounts from New York, Chicago and Los Angeles departing for Beijing at convenient times so that you see familiar faces on your journey. Tianjin provides transportation from and back to Beijing International Airport. All activities are a convenient walk from the central hotel to the Tianjin International Exhibition Centre and Tianjin Grand Theatre opposite to Galaxy Square. Those of you who join us in Tianjin will find themselves in the center of a vibrant and growing city of 11 million with rich history and European style architecture. The Great Wall of China is only 90 minutes away. We are honored guests of Tianjin and our friends in Tianjin are wonderful hosts.
