Wow! What a show! I’m talking of course about our St. Jude car show held April 25 . We had more
participants than any other year! Also, all food, sweats, etc. were sold out by days end. Additionally,
all raffle tickets were bought, and the 50/50 and auctions were a success!

I’d like to thank the show chairmen for their untiring work and the members who gave so freely of
their time. Through this culmination of all aspects of the show, we will bring a handsome check to
St. Jude Hospital at the end of the month.

Our crawfish boiled was another hit this year. A big round of applause to the parade and
homecoming drivers and our Sponsor, All Star Chevrolet who help make all these events possible to
the members.

We have lots of activities on the calendar for the next several months. Please check your e-mails
and come to the meetings whenever possible for up to the minute news.

Don’t forget our sponsor All Star when thinking about purchasing new and/or used vehicles. Also,
the parts department continues to offer great savings to the members. At the end of June we will
be have a display at the dealership. We’d like to see as many members and their cars there as
possible. Lunch will be served.

Finally, we’ve got great cruising weather ahead, so don’t forget to get out there and have fun AND
don’t forget to WAVE; it’s the “Proud” thing to do!

Labor Of Love Car Show

Baton Rouge Corvette Club
Plaquemine Main Street Program

In 1997, Joe & Faye Collettie met with the Marino’s who had just lost a son to cancer (he was a
patient at St Jude’s Children’s Hospital). They decided to have fundraiser for the hospital. The
decision was made that a car show could raise some money for the charity. Joe being a long-term
car guy and a member of The Baton Rouge Corvette Club had the knowledge that was needed to
make a successful show.

The first decision to make would be where to have this show. The four adults met with the people in
the Mayors office in Plaquemine and at that time a joint venture was formed between Baton Rouge
Corvette Club and Plaquemine Main Street program. “The Labor of Love” open car and motorcycle
show was born.

Location for the show was decided that the Locks in Plaquemine would be the perfect sight. This
was a beautiful setting just off of Hwy 1. Our club members parked their corvettes on the top of the
levee for by passers to see hoping to draw spectators. The visitors came to register their cars and by
passers stopped to look at the beautiful cars as well.

Unlike the general run of the mill car shows that are in our area, Joe had the vision to make this
more of a fair atmosphere. They decided to have BBQ dinners, Fast food, A Raffle, 50/50 tickets and
an Auction, In addition to a survivor’s parade. The Labor of Love car show was successful form the
start. Each year the profits have continued to grow. Every penny that is raised by this show is
donated to St. Jude’s Hospital. No administrative fees are kept.

Show # 7 had to change, work was being done at the locks and that location would not be available.
The BRCC members and Joe Collettee talked with the town of Plaquemine and it was decided we
would have our show at CoPAC, which is the old Plaquemine High School. The show was dusty but
shady and we made the best of it. All of these shows were held in October.

Show number 8 “What to do”. An event that changed Louisiana came to visit. “KATRINA” The club
decided that we could not in good conscious have a car show with so many of our friends hurting.
So many were just trying to get order in their world. We decided we would move our show to April.
When we started organizing for the April show, we found out that the locks were not going to be
available to us. The city of Plaquemine has just completed a beautiful park just on the other side of
Bayou Plaquemine. The town assured us that the park would be great for the show. With great
resistance we agreed to hold our show at the Bayou Plaquemine Water Front Park. By that time Jeff
& Pat Travasos had become assistants to Joe and Faye in the show. The area was indeed beautiful
and a great place for a car show.
                                 th th
We have just completed our 11 show with two additional chairmen. At the 11 show, we had in
excess of 180 cars registered. We are proud of the fact that this car show has raised and donated in
excess of $150,000 dollars to St. Jude’s Children Hospital where hope and understanding is given to
children and parents from all over the world and NO child is ever turned away because they can not
afford to pay for treatments.

Thanks to every company and individual that has helped in any way to make this a successful event.

Head of the (New) Class?
Corvette to Enter ALMS GT2 in '09

Corvette Racing will aim for a sixth victory in the GT1 class in the 2009 24 Hours of Le Mans
before entering the GT2 category in the second half of the American Le Mans Series 2009

 Corvette Racing
unveiled its plans for the 2009 season Tuesday that will see the
most successful team in Series history compete in two classes in
the American Le Mans Series while shooting for another title at the
24 Hours of Le Mans.

In addition to its attempt for a sixth GT1 victory in the world's most
famous auto race, Corvette will enter the GT2 class in the second
half of the American Le Mans Series season. Corvette Racing will
launch a full-season assault in the new GT division in 2010.

Corvette Racing will run a limited schedule in the GT1 class in the
first half of the 2009 season as it prepares for its 10th Le Mans
participation in June. The team will race in the GT1 class in the
season-opening 12 Hours of Sebring and the popular Grand Prix of
Long Beach.

Following its return from the classic 24-hour endurance race in
France, Corvette Racing will compete in the GT2 category in
selected events in 2009 in preparation for a full-season program
under new international GT class regulations in 2010.

Manufacturers currently represented in the Series GT2 class or
confirmed for future participation include Ferrari, Porsche, Aston
Martin, BMW, Ford, Dodge, and Panoz. Other manufacturers
produce high-performance cars that could compete in the new GT

The new GT Corvette C6.R race car will be based on the production
Corvette's chassis and body design. A 6.0-liter version of the LS7.R
small-block V-8 will power the Corvette GT2 entry in the transitional
2009 season.

A new naturally aspirated 5.5-liter version of the production GM
small-block V-8 will be developed to meet the new GT regulations
that will take effect in 2010. The chassis and powertrain
specifications of the new Corvette GT entry will be submitted to the
ACO and FIA for homologation approval.

Below is the documentation to verify the numbers matching 350 c.i. 350 h.p. engine. As you know, I have done extensive
work the car including the engine and transmission rebuild, radiator replacement, heater core replacement, new door
panels, new bushings in suspension, new ignition, replacement of rear end, and numerous other things I can't remember.
The car is a great driver, not a show car. It currently has an aftermarket intake manifold and carburetor, and electronic
ignition. I have the original parts that I replaced to go with the car. Right now, I do not have a radio in it, but I have a
restored OE radio that will also go with the car. Price - $25,000 firm. As you know, I've probably got closer to $40,000 in
it, but this is a more realistic market value right now.

Subject: Wanted 58-60 Corvette
I was wondering if you could help me out. I'm looking for a 58-60 driver for
my Dad and not having much luck so I thought I might have better luck if I
sent my little want ad out to some fellow members. Would you be so kind as
to forward my e-mail with it's attachment to those in your chapter to see
what might turn up? I do have an ad in the Driveline but it won't be out for
another two months and I'd like to get on this sooner than later. I'd really
appreciate any help you can give me in this matter.
Best Regards,
Greg Linton
