  2003 Anniversary Edition Fatboy

Harley-Davidson Motor Company (NYSE: HOG, formerly HDI) (often abbreviated H-D or Harley)
is an American motorcycle manufacturer. Founded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin during the first
decade of the 20th century, it was one of two major American manufacturers to survive the
Great Depression. Harley-Davidson also survived a media-accelerated negative image of
motorcyclists, a period of poor quality control, and competition with Japanese manufacturers.

The company sells heavyweight (over 750 cc) motorcycles designed for cruising on the highway.
Harley-Davidson motorcycles (popularly known as "Harleys") have a distinctive design and
exhaust note. They are especially noted for the tradition of heavy customization that gave rise
to the chopper-style of motorcycle.[4] Except for the modern VRSC model family, current Harley-
Davidson motorcycles reflect the styles of classic Harley designs. Harley-Davidson's attempts to
establish itself in the light motorcycle market have met with limited success and have largely
been abandoned since the 1978 sale of its Italian Aermacchi subsidiary.

Harley-Davidson sustains a loyal brand community which keeps active through clubs, events,
and a museum. Licensing of the Harley-Davidson logo accounts for almost 5% of the company's
  net revenue.

In addition to manufacturing motorcycles under its own name and its licensing and accessories
line, Harley-Davidson's operations include Custom Vehicle Operations, which makes special
editions of Harley models with larger engines, the Buell Motorcycle Company, a manufacturer of
Harley-engined sportbikes and a middleweight "beginner" bike, and Italian motorcycle
manufacturer MV Agusta, including their Cagiva subsidiary.

The "Sturgis" model, boasting a dual belt-drive, was introduced. By 1990, with the introduction
of the "Fat Boy", Harley once again became the sales leader in the heavyweight (over 750 cc)
market. At the time of the Fat Boy model introduction a story rapidly spread that its silver paint
job and other features were inspired by the World War II American B-29 bomber; and that the
Fat Boy name was a combination of the names of the atom bombs (Fat Man and Little Boy) that
were dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima respectively. However, the Urban Legend Reference
Pages lists this story as an urban legend.

Definitive Harley. If retro-style cruising is your thing, the Harley-Davidson FLSTF Fat Boy has all
the right bits in the right places, from the big Milwaukee V-twin motor to the characteristic disc
wheels and even the badge on the tank. Not the most versatile or comfortable of Hogs, but the
Harley-Davidson FLSTF Fat Boy is almost certainly the best looking.

The Harley-Davidson FLSTF Fat Boy's long-lived (it dates from the 1950s) pushrod V-twin was
boosted again in 2006 from 1450 to 1584cc (the original 1989-99 motorcycles were 1340s) and
is now respectably meaty, especially when liberated with some fruity Screamin’ Eagle of other

  aftermarket exhausts.

For most Harley-Davidson FLSTF Fat Boy owners, it's surprisingly good. The rear ‘softail’
suspension (with the twin shocks hidden under the engine to give the hardtail look) may give a
slightly harsh ride, but otherwise the antiquated but quaint Harley-Davidson FLSTF Fat Boy is
well balanced, predictable and easy to steer and manouvere.

  Model History
1999: 1340cc Harley-Davidson FLSTF Fat Boy launched as derivation of FLST Softail
1994: Exhausts changed to seamless type
1996: More modern switchgear and master cylinder adopted.
1997: Harley-Davidson FLSTF Fat Boy now with sealed battery
1999: New Twin Cam 1450cc engine adopted.
2002: Alarm and immobiliser now fitted on Harley-Davidson FLSTF Fat Boy as standard along

On the Fatboy inspected it is the 2003 100th anniversary edition and has presently accumulated
only 6000 kilometers. From a distance the non discriminating onlooker would recognize that
this bike is definitely a Fatboy, but on closer inspection one can see the amount of modifications
  that have been made.

Both of the factory rims have been replaced by polished chrome rims and a chrome accent has
been added to the disc brakes. The brake calipers have been replaced by chrome ones and
  they cover custom slotted rotors.

The rear of the Fatboy was originally adorned with a single brake/taillight and separate signal
lights. Those have been replaced by a single unit that integrates all the directional lights. That
light is center mounted on the rear fender. To facilitate the license plate a side mount was ‘side”
mounted. All external caps have been replaced by chrome caps, Including the ones that
connect the now chromed swing arm to the frame.

The rear foot pegs were removed and custom chrome ones were installed. The original seat
and passenger seat were removed and only a custom La Pera rider’s seat was replaced. The oil
tank has been covered with a chrome cover and chrome inserts have been installed on the
frame. The original Twin Cam 1450cc engine has the additional support of Thunder headers. A

progressive air ride system has been installed to assist with the already comfortable ride.

6 Inch pull back handle bars leave just enough space for the rider to observe the digital tach
that is mounted on the headlight shroud.

Of note that all original parts that have been removed have also been placed in storage.

Not only has a considerable amount of parts been added to this anniversary edition, there has
been, and will continue to be, countless hours spent cleaning and polishing the entire bike which
  is in excellent condition.

A 19A special valued vehicle endorsement insurance clause in your contract is highly
recommended for all parties to insure this vehicle to its appraised value and adhered to
  accordingly.

  Krause Condition Rating

The 1 to 5 grading scale for collector vehicles was developed by Krause Publications and has
been in use in the industry for some time. These number coded categories help to maintain
  consistency of descriptions and assessments.

  1 = Excellent,            2 = Very Good,                3 = Good,        4 = Fair,      5 = Restorable

  1) Excellent = Restored to current professional standards of quality in every area; or original
with all components operating and appearing as new. This vehicle is true show car quality and
is never driven and transported in closed trailer. Flaws, if any, are few, minor and readily
  repaired.

  2) Very Good = Well Restored; or combination of superior restoration and excellent original
condition; or extremely well maintained original showing minimal wear. This vehicle would only
be driven infrequently in good weather. Also called above average condition.

  3) Good = Completely operable original or older restoration showing some wear or amateur
workmanship. Also a combination of well done restoration and good operable components; or
partly restored car with valuable NOS parts. Vehicle would likely be driven frequently for
  enjoyment. Also called Average condition.

  4) Fair = Addressable vehicle needing no or only minor work to be functional; or a deteriorated
restoration; or a very poor amateur restoration. All components may need restoration to be
Excellent or above average, but mostly usable in “as is” condition.

  5) Restorable = Needs complete restoration of body chassis and interior. Not drivable, but is
not weathered, wrecked or stripped to the point of being useful only for parts salvage.

  Valuation Definitions

Fair Market Value: The highest price, expressed in terms of money, that this vehicle will bring in
an open and unrestricted market between a buyer and seller who are informed, knowledgeable,
and prudent and who are acting independently of each other, neither being under any
  compulsion to buy or sell.

Collector Car Insurance policies are based on fair market value and it becomes the “Agreed
Value” between the insurer and insured for an insurance contract with a 19A endorsement for
  collector vehicles and motorcycles.

“Replacement Value” may be the same as fair market value but is usually higher if modifications
or custom effects have been made to the vehicle. These changes may or may not always be
reflected in market values, but these same costs would be required to return any replacement
vehicle to the same condition or state as the original vehicle. It usually used in property value
insurance and not for collector vehicles.
