					                                        Rubrics

I like my rubrics to be done on points for certain information that I am
looking for in their work. This way I can preset the criteria that I am looking
for and have a range inside that area, but I can also let the students know what I
am looking for so that they have a better idea of what they need to be doing

                                  Introductory Activity
                                        Buttons
 I looked for each of the following properties to be listing and gave them 2 pts. for
each item listed: holes, color, shapes, texture, and size. This is 10 pts.

 I also gave them 1 pt. for any extra properties that they may have come up with
that did not fit into the categories above such as one put down having designs. This
could have fit under maybe texture or color, but was a good in-between property that
could have been by itself. I did not give the extra point for red or yellow, rough or
smooth, triangle or circle, which fit under the broader headings of color, texture, and
shape. These were things we discussed when the activity was going on.

 I also looked to see if they did a graph. If they did a graph using two of the
properties, I gave them 4 pts. Two points for each property used.

 If the graph was not complete, I deducted two points. The graph could not be
complete due to not listing all the colors, or shapes, or textures. This means that if
only two colors were listed (and I know in all the buttons that there were at least six
different colors) I would deduct the 2 points.

    Total points possible: 15
                                   Enabling Activity
                       Element Research Paper

This was very easy to grade. I wanted them to gather the information and have it down
correctly on the paper. For everything that was put down and correct they received one
point. I told them I expected them to have something in the other information column. They
were asked to find something out about each element that I did not ask for that they found
unique or interesting. 12 columns times 15 elements equals 180 points possible. I did not
include the element’s name since I gave them nine of them and it was just a choice by them
for the other six.

                                 Culminating Activity
                                  Comic Strip

I would like to state that for the culminating activity that I give out the
criteria and discuss what I expect from the students before they begin, so that
they know how they will be graded and what they can do to get the better grade.
I give out a grading rubric to each student as I discuss what is expected for the
assignment. I also do not write on their comic strips (artwork), but give them a
filled in grading rubric. In this way, I do not destroy their work. If they have
any questions as to why they received the grade that they did, they have the
paper to show in what area(s) points were not earned. I also will write down
why I deducted points from an area such as under neatness where I might have
given them 4 pts., I will write ruler not used on boxes, pen smears, hole in
paper, can’t decipher writing and so on. On the next page, you will find a
double copy of the grading rubric for the comic strip for you to download and
copy on the Xerox machine for figuring your grades.
                                          Comic Strip
                                       Criteria for Grade

Name _____________________ %
                                                                      Grade ________
____ (5pts. each) Two elements used: ___________ and _________
____ (1-10pts) Three (10pts.) boxes were used in comic strip. Two (6pts.)
                  One (2pts.)
____ (1-10pts) for neatness
____ (10pts. possible for each element chemical properties are displayed
through strip) for total of 20pts. Meaning that the element must show
its chemical properties correctly. Correct Example: Lead has a high
density, so it could be used to block radiation. The character might
fight off a villain that has a ray gun or protect an innocent from being
killed by using his body to shield the rays. Incorrect Example: The
enemy used a ray gun on him and it killed or terminated him.
Depending on the amount of incorrect representation of the element’s
chemical properties the points will be adjusted.
____ (1-10pts.) Creativity – idea of comic strip. New characters or characters already
done before such as Superman and maybe a Krypton enemy. New characters
receive higher points. (5pts per each element character)
.
____ Total points given out of possible 60 points
