11. The Informed Decisions Toolbox
Using research evidence when making decisions about the organization and
financing of health care has great appeal, yet decision-makers do not always use
this information. The Informed Decisions Toolbox addresses this issue in six steps
and aims to help the health care decision-maker:
* Acquire the best available evidence when making management decisions;
* Assess whether evidence is useful, defined as accurate, applicable, actionable,
* Improve the process by which evidence is used in decision-making
12. RCN-led consultations
The RCN is asked to comment on a huge array of consultation documents many
of which have a very short timescale. To give RCN members a greater
opportunity to feed into this process an up-to-date list of consultations is
available on the RCN website. Recent consultations with RCN leads and deadlines
in brackets include:

13. DIAMAP, Road Map for Diabetes Research in Europe - A European
Commission FP7 project. Online survey.
The mission of DIAMAP is to undertake a wide survey of the current European
diabetes research landscape from which expert opinion can identify gaps and
highlight strengths, to guide a Road Map strategy for diabetes in Europe. The
DIAMAP committee of leading experts in diabetes research and people with
diabetes would like to invite input from investigators (group leaders/principal
investigators) and health professionals working in diabetes research. This is
essential for the DIAMAP project and is an important opportunity for diabetes
researchers to make sure that their specific area of research and institution are
appropriately represented in the DIAMAP survey of diabetes research in Europe.
The major findings and recommendations of DIAMAP will be used by the
European Commission and other public and private funding agencies to inform
future decision making on allocation of diabetes research funding and to help
coordinate European diabetes research. The compiled findings from the research
and funding questionnaire will be made public in scientific journals, through
presentations at conferences and on the DIAMAP website.
Completion of the research questionnaire will contribute to this major European
initiative and help to assure a secure future for diabetes research in Europe.

14. ICN Research Bulletin
ICN is committed to supporting nursing research as a powerful tool for generating
new knowledge and evidence to underpin nursing practice. Nursing has an
obligation to society to provide care that is continually researched and evaluated.
Nurses working singly or in multidisciplinary research teams can offer new
insights and unique perspectives to the research process. A research network
provides a vehicle for continual exchange of knowledge and experience. The ICN
Research Network will serve as a forum for exchange of ideas, experience and
expertise and as a vital resource bank for global nursing and health research. The
table of contents from their most recent newsletter includes:
i) Sharing knowledge through ICN's database on nursing innovations
ii) What is a Cochrane Review?
iii) International Nursing Review: ICN's official journal
