Unique teaching position This is a great job for the right person. Ours is a very unique little school with a fresh yet tried-and-true approach to teaching. We want someone who has the soul and spirit of a teacher, not just the standard teacher training that goes with the job. We don't turn away applicants with traditional training; but they might find they have a thing or two to unlearn. The right candidate, from whatever background, will find this a welcome breath of fresh air. In fact, we encourage people with broader liberal arts interest: travel, art, music, languages, real intellectual curiosity in the sciences, math and other humanities. Applicants must be comfortable across several disciplines: we are not looking for singlesubject teachers. We also encourage applicants with a foreign background,
with the proper work eligibility, of course. We're a year round school and serve a diverse population, many of whom are low-income families and first-generation immigrant kids, but a mix of professional and middle class kids as well--taught in an integrated, vertical group setting for kids preK to eighth grade. It's not a mix you're likely to have seen before, and some observers call it a slice of Europe or the Third World on the North Shore. That being said, we are rigorous in our academics and it's not meant to be a granola school. Our structure is flexible but always in place, and we've been doing it for almost 30 years. If you've read this far you will probably find it intriguing. We do want people who've had experience with young children, and we do want people who've been to college. We don't mind bringing the right person up to speed but we do demand a young-at-heart character with a very high level of energy, work ethic and trainability--in other words, the right mix of initiative and ability to take direction. It is among the toughest jobs you'll ever love (NO, not the marines). The pay is not huge but common for a human service position--liveable. And, again for the right candidate, the rewards will far outweigh the financials. Send a resume and cover letter. Feel free to learn more about our programs here: http://www.volunteersolutions.org/boston/org/215119.html or here: http://www.greenhouseschool.org However, please use only the contact below regarding this posting.
