                        Early bird registration is now closed

Registration to attend the NSW Ombudsman Symposium 2009 is now open.

It is now ten years since the commencement of this important jurisdiction. In recognition of this significant
milestone, we are holding a Symposium at the Mercure Hotel Sydney, Central on 25 – 26 May 2009.

Symposium Program
The theme for the NSW Ombudsman Symposium is Working together: advancing child protection in the workplace.

The program will take place over 2 days with plenary and concurrent sessions taking place. A number of topic
areas will be covered and include:

   Best practice in the workplace
   Useful investigation techniques for employers
   Research
   Innovations in Information Technology
   Legal and industrial contexts
   Diverse agencies
   Issues for religious communities
   Volunteers, mentors and casuals.

Keynote Speakers
The Organising Committee are proud to announce the following keynote speakers for the Symposium:

Dr Ethel Quayle is a lecturer with School of Health in Social Science, University of Edinburgh, and a project director
with the COPINE (Combating Paedophile Information Networks in Europe) Project.

Professor Max Taylor, International Relations at the University of St Andrews, Scotland. He is a forensic
psychologist with extensive experience of research in the criminal justice system.

Professor Richard Wortley is the head of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Griffith University,
Brisbane and is co-author of a number of publications on situational offending and the prevention of child abuse.

One day registration fees include:
     Symposium sessions for day of registration
     Lunch, morning and afternoon tea for day of registration
     Symposium materials

Accommodation
Why not stay at the Symposium venue and save on travel time. Accommodation is available at the Mercure Hotel
Sydney, Central at the special Symposium rate of $165 per room per night and includes GST. Accommodation can
be booked using the delegate registration form.

Social Program
To provide a change of pace from daily sessions, a Symposium Dinner has been organised for delegates and their
guest(s). This function will provide an opportunity for meeting socially to renew or develop friendships in a relaxed
atmosphere.

The Symposium Dinner is scheduled for Monday 25 May and will be held in the Grand Central room, Mercure Hotel
Sydney, Central. The Symposium Dinner program will include a sit-down 3 course meal and drinks for delegates as
well as a guest speaker and entertainment.

Tickets to attend the Symposium Dinner can be purchased using the delegate registration form.
