Australia's South West revs up for Forest Rally

Western Australia will once again be thrust into the Australian
motorsport spotlight as Australia's South West prepares to host the
2007 Quit Forest Rally later this month as part of the NEC
Australian Rally Championship.

More than 50 competitors will compete, including 12 interstate
entrants and the top five Australian rally drivers, including WA's
Dean Herridge and Darren Windus.

EventsCorp executive director David van Ooran said the rally
through Busselton and Nannup was a fantastic event that would
provide tourism, media and economic spin-offs for Western

"Large crowds always flock to these events, and there's free entry
all weekend, including entrance to the spectacular Super Special
Stages on Friday and Saturday evening along the Busselton
foreshore," he said.

Mr van Ooran said the State Government, through EventsCorp's
Regional Event Scheme, had invested $30,000 into the 2007 Quit
Forest Rally as part of its annual $300,000 commitment to grow and
develop regional events.

"Regional events such as the Quit Forest Rally are important
because they grow regional tourism, boost the local economy and
create community pride," he said.

A new three-year television deal with Network Ten means the Quit
Forest Rally will be broadcast into some of Tourism WA's key
markets through a one-hour highlights package in a Saturday
afternoon timeslot.
A 10-minute segment on the Quit Forest Rally will be broadcast
internationally on Fox Sports in conjunction with its coverage of the
World Rally Championship.

This second round of the NEC Australian Rally Championship will
take place from April 27 to 29. The race starts on the Busselton
foreshore on Friday night before heading through the scenic Nannup
area on Saturday and back to Busselton foreshore for the second
installment of the Super Special Stage. On Sunday, the crews head
back to the plantation forests around Nannup and the champagne
finale at 2.45pm.
