                            Our newsletter is updated in February, May, August & November!

     In an effort to conserve resources and eliminate waste, the Recreation Department no longer distributes it‘s quarterly
                newsletter through the schools. As always, you can access our newsletter online, at Town Hall,
                                the Wilmington Memorial Library and the Buzzell Senior Center.

                                                        How to Register:
Weekdays: Monday—Friday, 8:30 a.m. — 4:30 p.m., Recreation Office, Town Hall, Room 8. Phone: (978) 658 – 4270.

Night Drop: In sealed envelope, place payment, with your contact information including phone number, and program or trip
information in the Payment Drop Off slot in the wall at the left of the front door to Town Hall. The box is opened once a day
at 8:30 a.m. The date payment is received is the date it is removed from the box.

               We encourage residents of varying abilities, disabilities to participate in our programs, trips, etc.

This is the current flyer in circulation. As you read on, you may find that some programs are already in progress or complete.
We keep this list intact so you can see the diverse programs that this Department is able to offer. Many programs are regular
offerings and are available at different times throughout the year. Others are annual events that are eagerly anticipated by the
                  community. We hope that you find something of interest. We welcome your participation.

RECREATION DEPARTMENT GIFT CERTIFICATES – Purchase in any denomination $25 and over. A great gift!

EASTER EGG HUNT                                          (Town Common)
The Annual Easter Egg Hunt for children ages 6 and under will be held on Saturday, April 3 at 2 p.m. sharp on the Town
Common. In case of poor weather or ground conditions, the event will be held in the High School Cafeteria. Bring your basket!

FISHING DERBY                                               (Town Beach – Silver Lake)
All Ages, $4 – Age 18 & up; $2 - Age 17 & under, Saturday, June 5, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Rain date: Sunday, June 6.
Prizes awarded to contest winners. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Bath House. Shore fishing only – no boats.
For this event only – no fishing licenses required.

                                                    YOUTH PROGRAMS

*“THE ROOKIES” (Formerly T-Ball)                            Registration deadline is Thursday, March 25.
Currently in Kindergarten & Grade 1, $25, 6 Weeks, Monday - Friday, May 3 – June 11, no practice 5/31.
This co-ed program begins with two weeks of T-Ball (Spring Training!) and moves forward into the season with coaches pitching.
Teams will practice once a week to allow players to improve their baseball/softball skills, and have one game each week for fun!
Forms are available on our website. Late registrants will be accepted based on availability and will pay an additional $10 fee.

SOCCER!                                                     (North Intermediate School Gymnasium)
$35, 5 Weeks, Saturdays, April 10 – May 15, no class 4/24.
KINDER SOCCER - Ages 4 & 5 not yet in Kindergarten, Choose from: 8:30 – 9:20 a.m. or 9:30 – 10:20 a.m. or 10:30 –
11:20 a.m. Just like the big kids, now you can play soccer indoors while learning about the game. Don‘t wait – classes fill quickly!

JUST FOR KICKS! - Age 5 by 8/31/10, not yet in Kindergarten, 11:30 a.m. – 12:20 p.m. Kinder Soccer is a prerequisite for
this class. You‘ve learned some basic skills, now spend a little more time dribbling, shooting and scrimmaging.

KIDS IN MOTION                                          (Jennifer Tortolano – North Intermediate School Cafeteria)
Ages 2 – 4, $35, 4 Weeks, Saturdays, April 10 – May 15, no class 4/24 or 5/1, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
These sessions incorporate rhythm and movement using a variety of props and music. A first gym class!

BALLET & JAZZ DANCE LESSONS                                (Kelly Torpey – North Intermediate School Cafeteria)
Ages 3 - 4, $30, 5 Weeks, Saturdays, April 10 – May 15, no class 4/24, 9:30 – 10:20 a.m.
Our youngest dancers will learn age appropriate beginning ballet and jazz moves. Children can wear their sneakers.
THEME PARTIES                                              (Christine Downey)
Ages 4 – 7, $18 each party. Includes games, stories, music, a craft, refreshments and a souvenir photo.
Pot O’ Gold – Town Hall, Wednesday, March 17, 4:30 – 6 p.m. Dress in green and join the fun at this ―treasure‖ of a party!
Back in the Day – Harnden Tavern, Friday, May 21, 4 – 5:30 p.m. Experience the days of the past with ―historical‖ games and
treats! You‘ll enjoy your party in the town‘s own museum – a great way to have fun while you learn about days gone by.


JAZZ & HIP HOP DANCE LESSONS                                 (Kelly Torpey – North Intermediate School Cafeteria)
Ages 5 – 7, $30, 5 Weeks, Saturdays, April 10 – May 15, no class 4/24, 10:30 – 11:20 p.m.
This class will teach the basics of jazz and hip hop. Children can wear their sneakers.


SATURDAY RECESS!                                           (Jennifer Tortolano – North Intermediate School Cafeteria)
Grades 1 – 3, $45, 5 Weeks, Saturdays, February 27 – March 27, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Start with classic games like ―duck, duck,
goose‖, four square and dodgeball, and before you know it, you‘ll have enjoyed a full body workout!

VOLLEYBALL CLINIC                                          (Chris Copeland – Woburn St. School Gym)
Grades 6 – 8, $35, 6 Weeks, Thursdays, March 4 – April 8, 6 – 7:30 p.m.
This program for beginner or experienced players consists of 45 minutes of instruction followed by 45 minutes of team play.


MOTHER AND DAUGHTER CAKE DECORATING (Regina Leblanc – Town Hall Auditorium)
Ages 12 and up, accompanied by adult, $50 each, 5 Weeks, Wednesdays, April 7 – May 12, no class 4/21, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Learn skills to become your family‘s own Aces of Cakes! All materials will be provided – just be prepared to
―spread the fun‖ and ―put the icing on the cake‖! Limited enrollment.


SHRINERS CIRCUS – The Shriners have donated tickets for Wilmington special needs youngsters and their families for the
10 a.m. show on Friday, April 23. Call for tickets for this school vacation event.

OPEN SKATE                                                  (Wilmington Figure Skating Club - Ristuccia Memorial Arena)
$3 WFSC members, $4 non-members, Friday, April 23, 4 – 6 p.m.
Lace up your skates during April vacation, and head to Ristuccia for some cool fun! See www.wilmingtonfsc.com for additional

BABYSITTER TRAINING                                          (Gunther Wellenstein – Library Conference Room)
Grades 5 and up, $60, 2 Weeks, Saturdays, March 13 & 20, 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Part one covers the basics including holding, diapering, bedtime and games. Part two will address home safety and basic
first aid. Certificate upon completion. Participants should bring a doll and a snack. Prepare to start your babysitting career.

*LEARN TO SKATE                                             (Wilmington Figure Skating Club – Ristuccia Memorial Arena)
Ages 3 and up, $88, 6 Weeks, Fridays, March 5 – April 9 or May 7 – June 11, 4 – 4:50 p.m. or 5:20 – 6:10 p.m.
25 minutes of instruction and 25 minutes of practice time will teach your child a lifetime sport. A helmet and single blade skates are
required. Registration forms are also available on our website. The price includes an annual $10 USFS registration fee.

LITTLE DRAGONS KARATE CLASS                                  (Academy of Traditional Karate, 155 West St.)
Ages 3 & 4, $25, 4 Weeks, Thursdays, March 4 – 25 or May 6 - 27, 4:10 – 4:40 p.m. This class includes basic Karate
moves, Japanese culture and life skills such as concentration, respect and confidence. T-shirt and belt included.

LEARN TO FISH!                                          (Mass. Wildlife – Town Beach, Silver Lake)
Ages 8 and up, FREE, Thursday, May 13, 5 – 7 p.m. Rain date: Thursday, May 20.
Get hooked on one of America‘s most popular hobbies! Parents and children are encouraged to team up. Call to pre-register.

APRIL VACATION GOLF CLINICS                              (Barrie Bruce – Billerica Country Club)
Ages 7 – 14, $85, Monday – Friday, April 19 – 23, 10 – 11:30 a.m. ―All you need is a pair of sneakers and a good attitude!‖
Equipment provided. Classes accept both beginners and continuing students. Choose between Junior Golf and Golf for Girls!
                                          UPCOMING SUMMER PROGRAMS

*TINY TOTS (Ages 4 & 5) & KIDS CLUB (Ages 6 & 7) (Boutwell School)
$145 per session. This social/recreational program includes arts and crafts, games, special events, daily themes and a field trip.
Participants receive a t-shirt and a class photo.
Two Sessions: Monday, June 28 – Friday, July 16, no class 7/5, or Monday, July 19 – Thursday, August 5, 9 a.m. – 12 noon.
                     REGISTRATION – Thursday, May 13, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Town Hall Auditorium
Registration forms will be available beginning Monday, May 3 at the Recreation Office and on our website. After May 13,
registration will continue weekdays in the Recreation Office. A copy of your child‘s birth certificate is needed for registration.
Volunteer applications, for students entering grade 8 and above, will be accepted during the month of May.


*PLAYGROUND PROGRAM                                        (Shawsheen School)
Entering Grades 2 – 7, $150. This six-week program consists of arts and crafts, games, sports, special events, free play and
optional field trips. The program runs Mondays – Fridays, June 28 – August 5, no July 5, and its hours are 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Playground is held rain or shine. Registration begins Wednesday, April 28. Registration forms will be available at the Recreation
Office and on our website.

*COUNSELOR IN TRAINING PROGRAM
Entering Grade 8 and Above, $25, Mondays – Fridays, June 28 – August 6, no July 5, 8 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Selected participants will be assisting Playground Staff to provide a wide variety of activities for enrolled children. Learn
leadership skills and gain valuable experience for future résumés as you enjoy working with a great group of Wilmington
children. Applications will be available April 1 at the Recreation Office and on our website, and will be accepted through April 30.


SUMMER BASKETBALL LEAGUES                                   Registration period will be April 1 – June 3.
Forms for both leagues will be available at the Recreation Office and on our website.

*SHOOTING STARS - Entering Grades 3 – 4, $25, 6 Weeks, Tuesdays (Girls) or Thursdays (Boys), July 6 – August 12.
This program will provide instruction and games once a week. Teams will play a staggered game schedule at 6, 7 or 8 p.m.

*TWILIGHT BASKETBALL - Entering Grades 5 – 6 or Grades 7 – 8, $25, 4 Weeks, July 6 – August 2.
This co-ed league will play a staggered schedule outdoors on Monday through Thursday evenings at 6, 7 or 8 p.m. Teams will play
approximately two games per week.

Classes are held Monday – Friday, rain or shine! In the event of rain, class will move indoors.
Forms will be available in the Recreation Office and on our website. Documentation of a physical in the past year and

This new exercise craze fuses Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a dynamic workout. The routines feature interval
training sessions of fast and slow rhythms and resistance training to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat and calories.
                   ZUMBA LITE from 6 – 7 p.m. This class will use the same moves, just at a little slower pace!

AEROBICS                                                       (Patti Fitzgerald – Woburn St. School Gym)

Shape up with exercises and innovative methods in this low impact course consisting of aerobics, strengthening and conditioning.
*35+ BASKETBALL                                                (Bill Campbell – Middle School Gym)
$50 + $20 shirt fee, 8 Weeks, Wednesdays, April 7 – June 2, no games 4/21, 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. games.
Registration is first-come, first-served. This league offers those ages 35 and over structured team play with refereed
games for fun and fitness. Players without a 35+ mesh shirt must pay shirt fee. Registration forms are available on our website.

WATER AEROBICS                                                (Patti Fitzgerald – Shawsheen Technical School Pool)
$72, 6 Weeks, Tuesdays & Thursdays, February 23 – April 1 or April 13 – May 27, no class 4/20 or 4/22, 5 – 6 p.m.
This fun, fitness class provides a workout using the natural resistance of water. Floats and weights will be available for your use.

CO-ED VOLLEYBALL                                           (Chris Copeland – Woburn St. School Gym)
$40, 6 Weeks, Thursdays, March 4 – April 8, 7:30 – 9 p.m. Work off extra calories while having a great time!
This program for beginner or experienced players consists of 30 minutes of instruction followed by an hour of team play.

Learn the basics of ballroom dance, including the waltz and fox trot and swing, with introductory Latin dance steps.

Adult/Child/Infant First Aid - $45, Wednesday, May 19, 6 – 10 p.m. Train for sudden illness, injury, disease transmission, etc.
Take both CPR and First Aid classes, and save $5 per class. Certificate will be received upon completion of class.

 Boston Flower & Garden Show - Friday, March 26, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., $70. This 2010 horticultural extravaganza at the
Seaport World Trade Center is themed ―Feast for the Senses‖. After attending this delightful display of greenery, you‘ll enjoy
a luncheon feast at Maggiano‘s (five courses of appetizers, salads, entrées, pasta and desserts!!). Then, enjoy a sightseeing
tour by motorcoach of our ―new Boston‖, including the Rose Kennedy Greenway and the Boston Public Garden.
New York City – Saturday, May 8, $50. Take a bite out of the Big Apple - board our luxury coach at 6:30 a.m.
for a fabulous day experiencing the sights and sounds of NYC. Arrive home at approximately 1 a.m.

 “Remembering the Kennedys” – Saturday, May 22, 8:15 a.m. – 5:15 p.m., $70. The Kennedy family is always in the local
news, and here is your opportunity to learn more about the family. Start the day at the JFK Library and see Kennedy photographs
and artifacts, ―up close and personal‖. Enjoy a complete luncheon in a private room at the Philips Old Colony House. You‘ll
complete your day with a guided walking/motorcoach tour of Boston highlighting Kennedy landmarks including the JFK apartment
building, the Harvard dorm where JFK was housed and the Ted Kennedy Home at Charles River Circle. We‘ll even have a tour

Martha’s Vineyard - Saturday, September 11, $42 (Ages 13 and up), $35 Children. Let us deal with the traffic while you
enjoy this day at leisure. This trip includes luxury motorcoach transportation and your round trip ferry ticket to the Vineyard.

 Myrtle Beach Trip - Saturday – Friday, May 15 – 21, $810 p.p.d.o.

 Red Sox Road Trip to Philadelphia – Friday – Sunday, May 21 – 23, $479 p.p.d.o. This new 3 day/2 night trip includes
tickets for two Red Sox vs. Phillies games, two nights lodging in downtown Philadelphia, one buffet breakfast, motorcoach
transportation and escort.

 Atlantic City - Sunday – Wednesday, November 7 - 10, $199 p.p.d.o. We are off to your favorite location! This 4-day/3-night
trip will include motorcoach transportation, escort and three nights of luxury lodging at the Trump Taj Mahal Hotel & Casino.
You‘ll also receive $30 in Coin Casino Bonus and $30 in Dining Credits. Enjoy the famous boardwalk and test your luck in the
casino.

·Pre-registration and/or pre-payment are required for all programs except the Easter Egg Hunt, Open Skate and the Fishing
    Derby.
·Please mark your calendar. There are no reminder calls.
·Payment is by cash or check. There is a processing fee for any class or program cancellation.
 Program dates, time and location are subject to change.
·Programs are offered on a first come-first served basis for Wilmington residents. Non-resident participation is at the
    discretion of the Recreation Department. Non-residents may be placed on a waiting list and may pay a surcharge.
·Avoid disappointment - sign up early! Many programs have minimum registration requirements and risk cancellation
    if under enrolled.
·If a program is full, ask to be placed on the waiting list.
·Many programs depend on volunteers! Call if interested.
·We welcome suggestions for new classes, programs or trips.
·Group sales allow us to offer the best possible prices for show and sports tickets, and occur well before sales to the general
     public. In order to secure the best possible prices and seats, we must plan in advance - sometimes well before an event
     will actually be held, and before you see it advertised. If it is in our newsletter - it is time to register!

                                                           Volunteers:
  In order to manage the large number of students looking for volunteer opportunities, each volunteer must contact the Recreation
         Department in advance of the event or program. Please note that some programs may have application deadlines.

                                                  Mark your calendar:
Applications for a limited number of summer positions with the Recreation Department will be accepted until April 30, 2010.
      Lifeguard applications may be accepted throughout the summer. All applicants must be 16 years of age or older.

                     TOP Soccer is a free program for physically challenged children on Saturdays in the fall.
