DCHHS Participates in Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day
Monday, April 6, 2009 (Dallas) – On April 7, 2009, Dallas County Health and Human Services
(DCHHS) will provide free HIV and Syphilis Testing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during “Take a Loved One
to the Doctor Day”. For the 8th year in a row, the Tom Joyner Morning Show has sponsored Take A
Loved One To The Doctor Day in cities across the nation. Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day was
designed to reduce the gap in health care between African-Americans and other populations, improve
access to health care information, provide information to the African-American community and take an
active role in helping the special people you love find health care. The event will be held at the Martin
Luther King, Jr. Recreational Center, 2907 Pennsylvania Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75215 and will include
free medical, visual and dental screenings and more. There is no age limit or requirement for the event!
The fair will also include a holistic health and fitness speaker, a dance and fitness session plus station
contesting activities!
“Visiting the doctor on a regular or at least a yearly basis is important to everyone, but it’s even
more crucial in the African American community,” said Zachary Thompson, DCHHS Director. “Our
participation in the Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day underscores the need for everyone to be tested,
to know your status, in order to take control of your health and well-being.”
Joyner and the morning show crew, who reach an audience of more than eight million weekly in
over 115 markets, will highlight 'Take A Loved One to the Doctor Day' activities with morning show
personalities broadcasting live from Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Miami, Philadelphia and
Washington DC. In conjunction with The Tom Joyner Morning Show and State Farm, this year's
national supporters include the American Heart Association, the Center for Disease Control, the
Glaucoma Foundation and Lactaid.
