         TRANS TASMAN TOUR & CHALLENGE
                           SYDNEY, 12th – 21st JANUARY, 2009

All Under 11 and Under 12 boys and girls registered with the LAANSW for the 2008/2009 season
are invited to nominate and compete in the Selection Trials for the New South Wales team to
compete against the Auckland team at Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush on Sunday January 18,
2009 for the Trans Tasman Challenge Cup.
The objectives of Trans Tasman are to:-
       1.     Foster fellowship and goodwill between participants in children’s athletics.
       2.     Provide children’s athletics, emphasising enjoyment of participation and personal
              achievement.
       3.     Enable our athletes and officials to meet with people of another country and learn
              about their customs.
       4.     Encourage involvement of families on both sides of the Tasman to act as hosts in
              entertaining in their own homes the visiting contingent.
       5.     Generally provide an interchange of views on the management, administration and
              promotion of children’s athletics in both countries.
Team Selection
              Trials for selection in the Trans Tasman Challenge Team to represent LAANSW will
              be conducted at The Ridge Athletic track, Recreation Drive, off New Illawarra Road,
              Barden Ridge on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2008, commencing at 9.00am sharp.
              CENTRE UNIFORM with individual ‘McDonalds’ registration number firmly affixed
              to the front, the ‘Coca-Cola’ Centre number firmly affixed to the back and the age
              patch on the left hand side of the uniform, MUST be worn by ALL competitors in the
              Trials. IGA patch must be worn on the top right hand side of the uniform. ACT
              competitors MUST wear uniform and numbers as required by the ACTLAA.
Association selectors will choose a team comprising:-
       30 boys        from Under 11 years age group     +    4 reserves
       30 girls       from Under 11 years age group     +    4 reserves
       30 boys        from Under 12 years age group     +    4 reserves
       30 girls       from Under 12 years age group     +    4 reserves

Athletes can nominate for the Trials in:
       2 track & 3 field      OR      3 track & 2 field OR    2 track & 2 field
However athletes MUST compete in a minimum of two (2) track and two (2) field events.

The reason for the requirement to nominate for track and field events is that the Trans Tasman
Challenge requires the majority of competitors to compete in a track or field relay in conjunction
with individual events. Selectors will be basing the Team on these Challenge Match requirements and
therefore looking for all round versatility.
Athletes will be selected in no more than four individual events plus a relay. These individual events
consist of no more than two (2) track events and no more than two (2) field events.
Qualifying Standards for the Trials are:-
High Jump                    U12 Boys       1.25m           U12 Girls      1.25m
                             U11 Boys       1.15m           U11 Girls      1.15m
(5cm increases until 15 remain, then 2 cm increases)

Entry Fee of $10.00 per competitor must accompany the Entry Form, which will be available from
your Centre Secretary
Team Announcement – The Team selected by the Association selectors is to be announced on
Monday, November 10, 2008. The team member and reserves names will be published on the LAA
website www.littleathletics.com.au and the children selected will be advised by mail of their events
and further arrangements as soon as possible after the announcement.
Cost – Athletes selected in the Team will be required to purchase a running uniform, hat, tracksuit,
polo shirt, socks, backpack and team photograph costing approximately $220. All top twenty (20)
competitors in each event at the Trials will be fitted for the team uniform to ensure that when the
Team is announced the uniform orders can be placed for each child selected.
Closing Date – Centre entry form, with entry fees, must reach the Association office by close of
business Wednesday October 22, 2008. Entries must be submitted via your Centre.
NOTE – PARENTS MUST SIGN CENTRE ENTRY FORM

NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.
ENTRIES ARE ONLY DEEMED TO BE LODGED WHEN ACTUALLY RECEIVED AT
THE LAANSW ASSOCIATION OFFICE, 90-92 HARRIS STREET, HARRIS PARK, NOT
WHEN LODGED WITH YOUR CENTRE.
FAXED ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED IF ACCOMPANIED                                           BY    BANK
CONFIRMATION OF DIRECT DEBIT OR CREDIT CARD DETAILS.
NSW Team Members & Reserves MUST:
i)   Compete at the compulsory carnival which will be the West Metropolitan Zone Carnival,
     Blacktown Olympic Park on Thursday January 15, 2009.
ii)  Entertain a New Zealand team member on Friday January 16, 2009, to be collected from their
     accommodation at St Gregory’s College Campbelltown and returned afterwards.
iii) Attend Challenge Day, Sunday January 18, at Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush.
Country children, who live south of Berry, west of Blackheath and north of Gosford and are not in
Sydney during this period of the Tour may be excused from this requirement upon written request to
the Tour Secretary.
