If cattle die on-farm, feedlot, producer and third party users choose the Cattle that have died on
property option to record the deceased cattle on the database, so those devices will not be listed on
current holdings reports. This makes it easier to reconcile cattle holdings with the database account.
Other account types choose the Cattle moved off my property option to record cattle that die elsewhere
(other than at an abattoir). This Tech Tip explains three methods for doing this.
If you are using an Agent account to record deceased cattle for a client whose PIC is not linked to your
account, use the Cattle moved (non-written authority) option and type DECEASED as the destination
PIC. The Enter the details screen for that option looks slightly different from the screen shown below.



  1    Go to www.nlis.mla.com.au
  2    Enter your NLIS user ID and password and click
  3    Select Cattle moved off my property and click
  4    Choose one of three methods:

       • Click                        to enter details for deceased cattle on screen       See below.
       • Click                         to upload a file from your computer                 See page 2.
       • Click                        to view a device list and tick deceased cattle       See page 2.


 Type in the details method

                                                                 Leave a space after the first three RFID
                                                                 numbers e.g. 999 000001234567
                                                                 If you type numbers in the first field, press
                                                                 the Enter key after each device to transfer
                                                                 that number to the large box below.
                                                                 To paste in a list of device numbers copied
                                                                 to your clipboard, click in the large white
                                                                 box and press the Ctrl and V keys.


  5    Type or paste in the electronic RFID numbers or visual NLISID numbers.
  6    Select the PIC from the drop-down list.
  7    Type DECEASED as the destination PIC.
  8    Leave the NVD field empty but choose the approximate date the cattle died.
  9    Click           to proceed, or click         to change the details.
 10    Follow the prompts to confirm the details and            the information to the database.

Upload a file method

 1      First create a file on your computer.                                           TIPS
 2      Save the file with a meaningful name and appropriate file type.                 You can use Excel or Notepad
                                                                                        software to create a file.
     An Excel file to record one deceased animal would look like the shaded row:

                                                                                        NVD/Waybill field empty.
 3      Select Cattle moved off my property and click
 4      Click
 5      Click Browse … to select the file to upload.
 6      Click            to proceed, or click
        to choose a different file to upload.
 7      Follow the prompts to confirm the details
        and         the information to the database.


Choose from the list method

 5      Choose one of three options to view.
 6      If you chose cattle moved onto or cattle
        bred on, also choose a date range.
 7      Select the PIC on which the cattle died.
 8      Click           to proceed, or click
        to change the details.

                                                                     TIPS
                                                                     If you see a Next page button, there are
                                                                     more pages to view.
                                                                     If you want to view your list on one page,
                                                                     select All Items per page.
                                                                     To search for specific devices, click Filter by,
                                                                     follow steps 1-2 and Apply.




 9      Scroll through the list, tick item numbers for all the cattle that died on that PIC and click

10      Type DECEASED in the PIC field, click, choose
        the date the cattle died and click
11      Click           to proceed, or click
        to change the details.
12       Follow the prompts to confirm the details and
                 the information to the database.
