Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome to all our new families.

It is good to be back to school. Our students are keen and eager to get started on the exciting
opportunities of the new term. We have a record number of students on roll and lots of excellent
new staff (see later in the newsletter for their details).

Year 11 GCSE results day was again a day of celebration, with the majority of students achieving
top grades and many very high performances, above our target grades! Congratulations to all past
students. We wish them well as they move on to the next phase of their lives.

The school buildings are in ship-shape condition. The Graphics room and one of the Computer
rooms have been re-furbished and newly equipped. Our whole ICT infrastructure has been
modernised and the old canopy adjacent to the Sports Hall has been replaced.

We look forward to a rewarding and successful year ahead.

Cathy Tooze

                            WELCOME TO YEAR 7 STUDENTS.
A big welcome to our new year 7 students. They have made a great start to the new school
term and we wish them every success during their time at Hadleigh High School.
From Miss Smith and the Year 7 team.

Year 7 ‘drop in’ sessions
Parents/guardians have an important role in helping their students to achieve in school.
Therefore it is important to develop a positive partnership between our students, their home
and the school.

To encourage this we are running some ‘drop in’ sessions during the month of September for
parents to discuss any concerns they may have concerning their child’s transition to High
school. Later in the term there will be an opportunity for you to discuss your child’s learning
and progress with their tutor. Therefore please only attend the ‘drop in’ if you have a concern
to discuss. The sessions will be run according to your child’s tutor group and you will receive a
letter outlining the details of the sessions.

 Session 1 (Thurs 10/09/09) H & A
 Session 2 (Thurs 17/09/09) D & L
 Session 3 (Thurs 24/09/09) E & I
Session 4 (Thurs 1/10/09) People unable to attend at other specified time

Please do feel that you can contact Miss Smith or your child’s tutor anytime either by phone
or email.
                                   SCHOOL CALENDAR
To take advantage in the advances in technology, this year we are trialling an electronic
only school calendar. Calendars in the past have been difficult as there are inevitably
changes that occur throughout the year but most parents still work from the original
calendar issued in September. To access the calendar find an internet ready device and
type in the address below: Click on the
calendar link from here.

Alternatively if the above address is a bit long you can go to the address: and select “H” and “Hadleigh High School” from the list.

It is hoped that by maintaining the calendar throughout the year it will eradicate any
unfortunate problems caused by events moving or changing and parents/carers not finding
out until it is too late. This is a trial and we are interested to hear your views by
emailing us from the school web site.

                             REVIEWING SCHOOL POLICIES
Every month, we are putting a school policy on our website for parents, carers, pupils and
interested members of the community to read and comment upon. Last month’s policy
under review was ‘.Confidentiality Policy’. This month’s is ‘Procedures for appeals against
internal assessment of work for external qualifications’.

                         EMAIL COMMUNICATION TO PARENTS
Please email the school if you wish to receive newsletters electronically to the following

                          ABSENCE TELEPHONE NUMBER
Remember the Absence Telephone Number which is 01473 820940 to register your child’s
absence from school.

                             SALE OF SECONDHAND UNIFORM
A small amount of secondhand Hadleigh High School sweatshirts, polo shirts, shorts,
fleeces, etc will be available for sale on Thursday 17th September between 3.00-4.30pm

                                  All proceeds to charity
We are starting an after school club of Mandarin Chinese where students will have the
opportunity to take a GCSE exam, or can choose to only discover such a fascinating
culture and language.

Last year, the whole of year 7 took part in a French poetry competition. The winners
are:1st Kayleigh Moye and Reece Wedige; 2nd Tori Hale and Francesca King; joint 3rd
Kimberley Last, Rebecca Mann and Michael Sexton Grant.

On the 26th September, it is the European Day of languages. The week preceding this
date, we will be having languages quizzes/ events during break time/lunch time and in
some lessons.

During the summer holidays Kieran Clements has continued to produce some impressive
performances. At the end of July he took part in a British Milers Club Grand Prix event
held in Solihull near Birmingham. The British Milers Club is an organisation dedicated to
producing international distance runners. Kieran completed in the Under 17 boys mile
championship and finished 1st in 4min 27.6sec.

In the middle of August Kieran also lined up in the A.A.A. UK Youths 3000m held in
Bedford. Here he finished in 4th place with many of his fellow competitors being a year
older than himself.

He recently represented East of England in the UK Youth games at 3000m held in
Cardiff and finished 6th. Well done Kieran.

The music department are already planning the exciting new year ahead. With
preparations in full swing for the WIND BAND tour next July to Germany. It looks set
to be an exciting trip, including trips to the chocolate museum, theme park, bowling and
other exciting Excursions - including 3 concerts yet to be confirmed. The SWING
BAND is already booked up for the year. Including a gig on November 13th at
Whatfield. We look forward to this event.

Well done to all those who took instrument exams last term - everyone passed with
marks ranging from a pass to a distinction. These pupils were; Harriet Bensted, Collette
Motteram, Collette Bunce, Alice Downie, Anna Gordon, Liam Self and Georgia Dashfield,
who took two exams. Well done to all. Very proud of you! We look forward to the year
ahead with all clubs back on and new members very welcome. The tour, gigs, the Bury
Christmas Fayre and Bugsy Malone to look forward to. We also welcome Mrs Clair
Cooper to the music department, who will be training with us this year.
