The following section provides a brief overview of the provider’s experience and qualifications

I have been a lawyer for 25 years, handling a wide variety of legal matters in various judicial and
administrative forums in ten states on behalf of hundreds of individuals and organizations. My areas of
experience include family law, labor and employment matters, and civil rights litigation. I have become a
mediator in the last several years and opened up my own law office focused on using mediation and other
types ADR to assist individual and institutional clients resolve conflict.

From 1996 to 2006 I was General Counsel to a large Oregon labor union that represented both public
and private employees. In that capacity, I handled litigation, administrative hearings, mediations and
arbitrations involving wrongful terminations, discrimination and other workplace grievances and disputes.
I was involved with various forms of ADR and/or direct negotiation to resolve matters for both the union
and employee-members (using FMCS, private mediators and/or direct negotiations with opposing counsel)
in claims involving the NLRA, the Oregon Public Employees Collective Bargaining Act, wrongful
terminations, Title 7 claims (sex and race), ADA, FMLA, OSHA, MSHA, workers compensation, FLSA,
problems among co-workers and between workers and their supervisors / customers, developing
treatment plans and return to work agreements for workers requiring assistance with various drug /
alcohol, physical or psychological issues; and generally assisting staff in managing conflicts and
developing stable and positive labor-management relations with union employers.

I am a member of the Oregon Mediation Association and have approximately 700 hours of mediation-
related training since 2004, including a 10-month mediation internship with Clackamas Co. Family Court
Services. The Columbia Co. Circuit court appointed me to a panel of four mediators handling all family
law cases.

I am licensed to practice law in Oregon, Washington, Ohio, Arkansas and Massachusetts, as well as
in many federal courts.

                                 SECTION #5: Relevant Formal Education
Provider’s relevant formal education (e.g., AA, BA, graduate degree or certificate, etc)

I have a B.A. from the U. of Massachusetts (1978) and J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center
(1981). I am licensed to practice law in Oregon, Washington, Ohio, Arkansas and Massachusetts, as well
as in many federal courts.

                                 SECTION #6: Relevant Work Experience
Provider’s paid or volunteer work experience that contributed to his or her process (e.g., mediation) or substantive
                                        (subject matter) expertise or skills.

See Sec. 2 above for details.

I have been a lawyer for over 25 years, including about 15 years handling labor and employment matters. I
participated in many mediations and other forms of ADR as a lawyer and union official, before becoming a
mediator in 2004. I very much believe in the power of mediation to manage and even transform conflict,
especially involving workplace disputes. As a result, I left a secure position as in-house counsel to a labor
organization to open my own mediation practice.

At my own expense, I have taken approximately 700 hours of mediation-related training since 2004,
including a full-year supervised mediation internship with Clackamas County Family Court Services. I
have mediated approximately 65 cases to date, in addition to dozens of other experiences with ADR as a
lawyer.
