WORKSHOPS AND ACTIVITIES INFORMATION Suzanne by Terry Bouton MASTER CLASSES with Terry Bouton About the artist Terry Bouton works in two and three dimensional mediums. She has a fulltime arts practice and over thirty years experience teaching. Her two dimensional work has a strong emphasis upon drawing and realism, and often incorporates text, collage and found objects. She was the winner of the Stanthorpe 3D Award in 2008, a finalist in the Alice Prize in 2008, and a drawing finalist in the Waterhouse and Hutchins award in 2007. About the workshops Perfect Portraits: Secrets revealed to capture likenesses. Terry and her students will examine a range of drawing styles and materials used and observe the basic features of the face. Students will use mirrors or A4 photos of faces. NB: faces must be at least a hand span in size Perfect Picture What’s in the background? "Let your drawings tell a story" We will look at what could exist in the composition behind the sitter. We will investigate the introduction of narrative composition and the use of colour and collage to complete the portrait. Students to bring: A4 photo of face for portrait workshop Notebook (visual diary) An open mind and a sense of discovery Past images for discussion (optional) All other materials and equipment supplied Advance notice of upcoming workshops with Terry Bouton Terry will also be conducting two advanced series of workshops in the 2009 consisting of four monthly sessions for children and adults on these proposed dates: March 21, April 19, May 16, June 20 You are invited to register your interest with the gallery for advanced notice. Free Activities for Children and Adults Children must be accompanied by a guardian for free activities 10% discount for multiple bookings Playing with Paper Series… Kirigami is the art of folding and cutting papers. The paper is Kirigami Window unfolded to reveal patterns such as snowflakes and blossoms. [8 – Adult] Participants will filling a window of the gallery with their creations as well as taking some home. Beaut Boxes Using templates, participants will cut and folds a series of [8 years to Adult] different colourful boxes ready to decorate. Crazy Collage Critters Using a huge array of collage materials participants can have [5 - 12 years] fun creating a unique critter. The Japanese kusudama is a paper model that is usually Kusudama balls made with six or more stylised flowers or motifs folded from [12 years to adult] square paper connected to form beautiful colourful spheres. Cut and decorate card to fold and form into animals. Suitable Paper Animal Kingdom for all ages with a wide range of animals to choose from [5 – 12 years] ranging in complexity. Make a mask Cut and decorate card to fold and form masks. Choose from 10 years to adult our range or create your own. An opportunity to explore a range of mediums including: Pencil, Pen & Paper Play Charcoal, chalks and graphite; Drawing with 3D glasses [5 – 12 years] Making cards using stencils & textures QAG - Kids Contemporary Australia Optimism On Tour The Queensland Art Gallery’s ‘Contemporary Australia: Optimism’ will be celebrated simultaneously at the Pine Rivers Art gallery with a day of free kids’ activities on Saturday 17 January 2009.It will feature interactive artist projects created by a number of exhibiting artists especially for children and families. http://qag.qld.gov.au/exhibitions/current/optimism Kaleidoscope 2009 The artists of the kaleidoscope exhibition [on show from January 7-Jan 24] will be holding a series of demonstrations and activities. This is an opportunity to work with the artists. [8 years - Adults] Bernard Bush - Play with clay Make a small animal. Pieces will be glazed and fired and returned to the gallery for collection Janna Quarantotto Participants are invited to try pastelling with the artist. Rex Renot Simons Watercolour - Participants are invited to try watercolours with the artist. Joan Gerry Oil painting – demonstration and tips from the artist Jenine Ryan Painting dragonflies and butterflies. Participants will paint a miniature canvas of a mythical creature. Ceramics Installation with Susan Mullen- $20.00 Mountain to Mangrove Vessels – A collaborative project - 8 years to Adults Working in family or other groups, participants will construct a set of vessels bearing brightly coloured fruits, nuts and pods suggestive of those found in our forests. Palm fronds will be used as the mould base to give a natural texture reminiscent of the Coolamon structures used by indigenous people who lived in the region. Participants will take home a memento of the project. There will be an opportunity to return to glaze the pieces at a later date. The finished artworks will become part of an installation to be displayed in venues around the region in conjunction with the Q150 celebrations after which, work will be returned to participants. About the artist Susan Mullen is an artist who specialises in hand built ceramic work. She has been exhibiting from Brisbane to Cairns and won prizes in many competitions. Susan has taught ceramics classes to students of all ages across a wide range of techniques.
