HAVE YOUR SAY - AIRPORT MASTER PLAN

01 September 2009

The community is invited to comment on Broken Hill City Council’s Draft Airport Master
Plan which is designed to ensure the long-term viability of the airport.

Once finalised, the report, which has been prepared by Aurecon, will provide a
framework for the development of the airport during the next 20 years.

While the draft plan will be presented to Council at Wednesday night’s monthly
meeting of Council, the community is also invited to attend a public information session
to be held at Council Chambers tomorrow night (Tuesday September 1, 2009) at 6pm.

Council General Manager Frank Zaknich said Council amongst a number of strategies
was seeking to enable a future upgrade of the airport infrastructure to attract major
budget carriers, increase regional flight capacity and promote Broken Hill as a
destination for carriers that provide international or major domestic-link flights.

“The current airport has served to city well for a number of years, however the airport
is one vital asset that presently constrains the potential of Broken Hill and the region to
capitalise on trends in tourism that would yield further development of regional tourism
and growth and employment opportunities associated with a future resurgence in
mining activity and other large-scale investment projects,” Mr Zaknich said.

“Council would like to hear the views of the community as the development of the
airport will mean a major investment of Council’s infrastructure funds in partnership
with other government agencies and the potential for private sector investment. It is
important that we get the balance right,” Mr Zaknich said.
