					What is Jiu-Jitsu?

The roots of Jiujitsu go back over 2000 years and are deeply embedded in Japanese history and tradition. JiuJitsu is a
defined as the Martial Art of Flexibility. This means the flexible or efficient use of balance, leverage and body
can combine or blend techniques to suit his/her needs is on the road to mastering the Art of Flexibility.
Martial Art originally developed by the warrior class (the Bushi) of Japan and as part of the classical bujutsu it is
movement in the performance of Jiujitsu techniques. It also means flexible in any or all situations. A Martial Artist who
The Martial Arts of Judo, Aikido, Aiki Jutsu, Hapkido, Nippon Shorinji Kempo and some systems of Karate-Do all
have their roots in Jiujitsu.

Development of Hachi-Do Jiu-Jitsu
Hachi-do Jiu-Jitsu was founded by Sensei Norm Harrison in 1997. Sensei developed this system based on his training in the various martial art
discipline including Kempo, Shoto-Kan, Goju and Chito Ryu Karate, Canadian Jiu-Jitsu (JJK, CJA, CJC), Kokorado Aiki-Jutsu, Gracie Ju-Jitsu
and Hapkido. Hachi-Do system is designed as a straight forward self defense system utilizing (short & long) circular movements,
joint locking and pressure points to control and subdue your attacker. This system is also based on defending against attacks from 8 directions
including stand, sitting, kneeling and ground positions. Weapons will also be an intercal part of Hachi-do Jiu-Jitsu.
Weapons include -Yawara, Bo, Arnis, Sai and other weapons will be introduced @ the Black Belt level.

Sensei believes that you must have a foundation of good basic techniques from several martial arts disciplines in order to be effective in
defending yourself.
Once the student has mastered the fundemental of Haci-do Jui-jitsu they are ready to begin their journey once again starting at Shodan or
1st degree black belt.
Sensei Norm Harrison has been involved with the Martial Arts for over 18 years and has been instructing for over 11 years.
Accreditation
Sensei Harrison is a 2nd degree black belt in Jiu-Jitsu, 1st degree in Chito-ryu Karate, 1st degree in Hapkido, instructor in pressure points and
certain martial arts weapons.
History
Sensei began his first martial arts training in Karate in July 1980 at the Aiki Kempo Karate Dojo in Mississauga, Under Head Instructor
Ken Hayashi (7th Dan). In October 1981, Sensei enrolled in his first Jiu-Jitsu class @ Jiu-jitsu Kai Dojo also in Mississauge, under Head
Instructor Gerry Watson (2nd Dan).

Sensei received his formal martial arts training from some of the top marital art instructors and founders in Canada.
Ken Hayashi, Gerry Watson, Steve Renolds, Ron Forrester, Steve Razewski , Monty Guest, Scott Hogarth and several other great instructors.

Dojo Rules
Techniques should not be practice with faimly or friends outside the dojo,
unless the family member or friend is also a student of Hachi-Do Jiu Jitsu.
No foul language
Food or drink are not allowed in dojo area (other than water)
Hands and feet must be clean prior to practice
Nails need to be kept short (fingers & toes)
Uniforms (Gi's) must be kept clean & in good condition
Do not wash your belt
No talking while Sensei is teaching
Higher belts will aid lower belts and lower belts will respect higher belts
Students must bow when entering and leaving the training area (Dojo)
Students should never use their skills unles in self-defense

Is based on the following:
1. Attitude, Character inside and outside the Dojo.
Courtesy, Sincerity and Self-Control
Respect for higher and lower grade students
Contribution to the Dojo (Hachi-Do Jiu-Jitsu)
Cleaning, organizing, teaching and participation in club functions
and demonstrations.
2. Performance and knowledge of each belt level
3. Compliance with Rules of the Dojo
4. Attendance

Grading to Shodan will be over a 3 day period starting on a Friday night and ending on Sunday afternoon.
