					Safe and Sound
Selection of a stallion for your mare
can sometimes be confusing with all
the glossy advertising of North
American stallions, sons of all these
new pacing sensations in the USA and
Canada, but one local star has found
his way to the Apple Isle - SAFE AND
SOUND, the winner of not one but four
group 1 races on the tough Grand

by studmaster Ken Austin to stand in

SAFE AND SOUND is by Australian Leading sire Safely Kept, who needs absolutely
no introduction. By Jate Lobell, Safely Kept, now 22, has been an icon of breeding
ranks in Australia for the last decade.

SAFE AND SOUND is out of a former Australian Broodmare of the Year in Larrakeyah
Lady and belongs to one of the most prized families in the stud book. Larrakeyah
Lady, by Windshield Wiper, won the Victorian Sires Stakes as a 4yo but it is as a
broodmare that she has left her mark. She is the dam of 7 winners from 11 named
foals : 2 - $375,000+, 3 - $200,000+, 4 - $100,000+ earners including -
Gold Rocket (36 Wins) p,1:51 -$367,538 (Armbro Operative)
Massarua (36 Wins) p,1:55.8 -$204,741 (Armbro Operative)
Safeguard (29 Wins) p,1:55.8h -$81,925 (Safely Kept)
Rocky Dee (1 win ) p,2,1:59.2 (Astreos)
Dreams (4 wins from only 7 starts ) p,2,2:04.5 By Whats Next, dam of
     Showstyle (M) p,4,1:59.9)

Larrakeyah Lady is out of the Mark Lobell mare Hot Foot who is the grand dam of
Cyclone George, Cyclone Force. Hot Foot, bred in New Zealand, is out of the Garrison
Hanover mare Sceptical, who is out of the U Scott mare Scornfull. It is no fluke that
the common thread found in nearly all great NZ broodmares, Volomite over U
Scott, is found in her pedigree.

SAFE AND SOUND stood at Stallion Station in Victoria but received limited
opportunities, nestled amongst the big named North American Imports, but Safe
And Sound continues to excel in the stallion barn. He has had, from limited
opportunities, 94 starters and is the sire of 36 individual winners, who have already
amassed over half a million in stake money. Wunlastchance, from a Holmes
Hanover mare has won 12 races and numerous placings and over 53K in prize
money, from his second crop Starpicker Osti (ex Vintner mare) has won 10 races
including 5 in the season just finished, Goeslikehell the winner of 10 races and over
32K, Real Impact who won 4 races from only 10 starts and took a mile rate of
1.57.2, Dancing Legacy 6 wins and 28K, and Hezaliner won the Bendigo Loddon
Valley Stud 2yo Classic and was placed in the Tatlow heat.

SAFE AND SOUND should match well with Ticket To Heaven mares; the doubling up
of No Nukes has worked extremely well world wide but particularly here in Australia.
Also owners of Cognac Hanover mares should look no further than SAFE AND SOUND
with No Nukes/Tyler B genetic linkage between Safe and Sound and Cognac

Ken Austin said recently, when interview by Tote Tasmania’s Wendy Kennedy and
Harness Racing CEO Kevin Neilson on the Harness Racing Show on Tote Sports
Radio, that ‘not since Island Glow has he stood such a exciting performer and stallion
prospect than SAFE AND SOUND’. Island Glow of course started his career as a
stallion here in Tassie, before being relocated to New Zealand.
To have a stallion who has achieved what SAFE AND SOUND has done on the race
track under Australian conditions from 1609 metes to 3300 metres, by Safely Kept
out of a Australian Broodmare of the year, Tasmanian breeders cannot go far wrong.
