One weekend, once a year, DOORS OPEN celebrates Toronto's architecture with more
than one hundred and forty of Toronto's most historic and or architecturally significant
buildings opening their doors to the public. This year’s focus is on eco-friendly buildings
and Steam Whistle Brewing is one of those 21 designated 'green' buildings. Steam
Whistle celebrates these environmentally conscious features:

 Steam Whistle Brewing is newly Bullfrog Powered with 100% green electricity
from Bullfrog Power’s wind and low-impact hydro generation sources.
 Steam Whistle Brewing has chosen Enwave’s Deep Lake Water Cooling in lieu
of conventional CFC Air Conditioners. This cold energy comes from naturally
chilled water drawn through intake pipes 83 meters below the surface of Lake
Ontario, using only the coldness, not the actual water.
 Steam Whistle uses efficient steam from Enwave’s District Heating Plant to
boil water in brewing, to wash their beer bottles, in climate-control and to sound-
       off their functioning steam whistles.
 Many elements in making Steam Whistle’s all natural Pilsner support
Reduce-Reuse-Recycle. The 'spent' grain from brewing is reused as farmer's
feed. The brewery’s green glass bottle can be used twice as long as the industry
bottle. The painted label eliminates glue and paper from entering run-off water in
manufacturing. All packaging materials (cardboard, shrink-wrap, broken glass)
are collected for recycling from operations. Biodegradable cups are used to serve
their draught beer at outdoor events.

Cam Heaps and Greg Taylor, founders of Steam Whistle Brewing will play host to the
press launch for 2007 Doors Open. They hold a special place in their hearts for this city-
wide festival having opened their brewery doors to the public seven years ago for the
very first time on the inaugural Doors Open weekend, May 2000. On Wednesday May
23, 2007 Steam Whistle celebrates their new partnership with Bullfrog Power, and Mayor
Miller will officiate at the ribbon cutting ceremony. Bullfrog Power’s Founder and
President, Tom Heintzman, will promote the 100% green electricity supplier’s
praiseworthy methods. Eva Legiti, Executive Director of the Clean Air Partnership will
discuss CAP’s goals and how CAP was the force behind focusing Doors Open on ‘green’
buildings this year.

You and/or a media representative are invited to attend Steam Whistle Brewing on
Wednesday, May 23, 2007. Please note: Media are welcome to this great photo and
interview opportunities. The ceremony will begin at 12:30 pm and will run until
1:00 pm. A light lunch and beverages will be served immediately after.

About Steam Whistle Brewing
Steam Whistle, an independent brewery housed in Toronto’s historic CPR John St.
Roundhouse just south of the CN Tower, has a singular focus: to make just one beer of
exceptional quality that Canadians can be proud of. We brew our refreshing Pilsner with
traditional brewing methods and only four, natural ingredients including spring water,
malted barley, hops and yeast - all GMO-free. There is a fifth ingredient in every
refreshing bottle, and that is the passion of our dedicated Brewmaster and staff.
Founded in 1998 and opened in 2000, the brewery was named Steam Whistle, drawing
from the inspirational sounds of steam rushing from factory whistles, signaling the end of
a fulfilling workday and a time for personal reward. Steam Whistle Pilsner is shipped
fresh to hundreds of Ontario Beer Stores, LCBO outlets and licensed bars and restaurants,
and we are growing, now shipping beer to Alberta as part of our focus on being Canada’s
Premium Pilsner. Critics have honoured us with many awards over the years, and
proudly, our independently-owned brew is now one of the top ten selling premium brands
in Ontario Beer Stores. To learn more about what we do really, really well visit .
