Explain to the groups that they are going to create a new country, and they are going

Activity:
The room is set out as if for a council meeting. There are four separate tables in a
semi-circle. Each table is for a different group of councilors.
The groups are: lawyers, town planners, public relations and culture ministers.

Split the groups:
Name the groups different places in Israel to divide them up into 4 teams. Each group
is responsible for a different aspect of the country’s creation.

In their groups they will be given an agenda of things that they must decide on, ie the
Town Planners decide how the town will be laid out, the Lawyers will decide on the
laws etc. The groups should be given pens and paper so that they can design a
logo/draw a map/write their ideas down.
                                                                              (40 mins)

Cultural Ministers

You are creating a brand new country. And can create
anything you would like – there are no limits! You are the
cultural ministers and are in charge of the day-to-day lives of
your citizens – bear in mind that all the decisions you make
will shape your communities atmosphere, so think about the
best place you would like to be and your favourite things.

What will be the daily routine of your citizens?

 Will the children go to school – what hours of the day? Will adults
go to work? Will you have a weekend? What language will they
     speak?

What free-time activities would you like there to be?

 Bowling? Cinema? Sports competitions? Religious activities?

What events will you organise?

 Religious? Arty? Will you have a Country festival? To celebrate
     what?

The Ministry of Development

You are creating a brand new Country and you can create
anything you would like – there are no limits! You are the
Ministers of Development and have to decide what type of
buildings and facilities will be in your Country – bear in mind
that the decisions you make will shape your communities
atmosphere, so think about the best place you would like to
be, your favourite things in the world and bring them into your
country.

The Plan of Your Country

 What public facilities are there going to be in your Country e.g.
libraries? Theme Parks? Museums? Is there going to be a Capital
and if so what will be in it?

What will your industry be like?

 Will you produce something for export? Will you use farming and
agriculture? Will you encourage the use of modern technology?
Will you be conscious about the environment?

Think About the Location of your Cities

 Will you place cities by the coast? On hills? Will you strike a
balance between green areas and cities?

**DRAW A MAP OF YOUR COUNTRY TO PRESENT
          BACK TO THE GROUP**
Public Relations

You are creating a brand new country and can create anything
you would like – there are no limits! You are in charge of the
public profile of your town and have to decide how to promote
your town – bear in mind that all the decisions you make will
shape your communities atmosphere, so think about the best
place you would like to be and your favourite things in the
world.

Everybody and every thing has a name which reflects on who they are
and what they are.

 Think of a name for your country, one that communicates what
you would like your country to be like.

You need to attract tourists to your country and create a sense on
national identity.

 Design a flag to represent your country, and write a national
anthem that will instil a sense on national pride in the citizens of
your country. Think about what your national anthem should
say...what does your country stand for and believe in?

**YOU MUST MAKE YOUR FLAG TO PRESENT TO
THE GROUP, AND SING THEM YOUR NATIONAL
                 ANTHEM**
The Ministry of Law

You are creating a brand new country. You can create
anything you would like – there are no limits! You are the
lawyers and you have to decide what laws you will have in
your country – bear in mind that all the decisions you make will
shape your community atmosphere, so think about the best
place you would like to be, your favourite things in the world
and bring them into your town.

What would you like your laws to be about?

 Size and shapes of houses? People having to wear certain
things? Who is allowed to live in your country? Replacing toast for
chocolate in the mornings? Will you have an equal rights policy?

Where does everyone live?

 Up a tree? In houses? In boats? Far away from each other? Does
everyone live in one area? Is there communal living?

How will you enforce the laws?

 Will you have a police force? Are you going to be strict or
relaxed? What kind of punishments will you have? Will you have
an army? Who will lead you country? Will you have a King,
    Queen or a Prime Minister?
