Getting Started as a Successful Grant Writer and Academician Speaker: David C. Morrison, PhD
David C. Morrison, Ph.D., is the Sosland/Missouri Endowed Chair of Trauma Research and Professor of Basic Medical Science at the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Medicine. He also holds the position as Associate Director of Research in the Office of Research Administration at Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City. He is an internationally-recognized authority in the area of microbial sepsis and the contribution of inflammatory mediators to the pathogenesis of septic shock. Morrison earned his Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology and Biophysics from Yale University in 1969. He has been a member of the faculty of the Research Institute of Scripps Clinic (19711980), Emory University (1980-85) and Kansas Univ. Medical Center (19985-99; Chair of Microbiology, Molecular Genetics and Immunology, 1985-91) and was Director of Research at Saint Luke's Hospital (1999-2001) prior to accepting his current position. Dr. Morrison has received numerous research grants and has been continuously funded for his research by the National Institutes of Health since 1975. He has been the recipient of both a Research Career Development Award (1975-80) and a prestigious ten year MERIT (Method for Extension of Research in Time) award (1990-2000) from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease. He is the co-founder of Grant Writers Seminars and Workshops L.L.C., established in 1994, and has presented programs on grant writing to audiences throughout the United States.
