Primary
Purpose
of
Position:


The
Grant
Writer
is
a
key
member
of
the
foundation
fund
raising
team
at
Sundance
Institute.

This
position

will
focus
primarily
on
researching,
cultivating,
soliciting,
and
stewarding
foundations
that
provide
grant

support
for
current
and
future
programs,
technology
projects,
and
operating
support,
which
are
all

components
of
Sundance
Institute's
institutional
funding
priorities
and
goals.



Duties
and
Responsibilities:

Solicitation

• For
grants
under
$50,000,
take
the
lead
in
identification,
strategic
planning,
introductory
phone
calls

    or
emails,
letter
of
inquiry
and
proposal
writing,
report
preparation,
budget
creation,
and
solicitation

    with
minor
supervision,
serving
as
relationship
manager
for
these
foundation
donors

• Write
engaging
materials
that
reflect
the
mission,
vision,
and
goals
of
Sundance
Institute
while

    addressing
the
interests
of
staff
and
trustees
at
foundations
who
will
read
these
documents

• Collaborate
with
staff
outside
the
Office
of
Development
on
drafting
funding
proposals

• Prepare
agendas
for
meetings
involving
prospects
and
donors

• Research
new
prospects
and
update
research
on
current
and
past
donors

Foundation
Relationships

• For
grants
of
$50,000+,
serve
as
the
relationship
manager
for
foundations,
under
the
supervision
of

    the
Associate
Director,
Foundation
Giving.




• Assist
in
the
production
of
1‐2
direct
mail
updates
or
informational
pieces
to
foundations
each
year

• Manage
donor
recognition
issues
related
to
foundations
on
behalf
of
the
Foundation
Giving
team

Tracking
and
Reporting

• Interact
with
staff
in
other
departments
to
gather
and
compile
current
statistic
data
or
information

    about
programs
to
support
the
development
of
proposals
and
reports,
analyze
this
data,
summarize

    and
share
it
with
Development
staff

• Regularly
enter
notes
and
information
about
work
in
Raisers
Edge

• Manage
and
ensure
the
systematic
preparation
of
written
communications
for
assigned
donors
in
a

    timely
and
efficient
fashion

• Design
and
maintain
Excel
documents
that
help
drive
grant
management,
the
annual
Foundation

    Giving
work
plan,
and
other
documents
to
be
determined
that
help
support
the
comprehensive
work

    plan
of
the
Foundation
Giving
team


Other
Duties

• Maintain
mutually
beneficial
relationships
with
other
departments
so
they
learn
more
about
the
fund

    raising
process
and
are
acknowledged
for
their
help
in
securing
gifts
and
grants

• Assist
other
members
of
the
Office
of
Development
on
special
events
as
necessary
to
achieve
funding

    priorities

• Participate
in
ongoing
professional
development
activities

• Other
duties
as
assigned



Education
and
Experience:

• Employee
is
required
to
have
authorization
to
work
in
the
United
States.

• Excellent
writing
and
research
skills,

• Detail
oriented,
highly
organized,
able
to
balance
priorities

to
present
complex
ideas
in
a
clear
and
compelling
manner,
verbally
and
in
writing

•   Able
to
manage
activities
from
conceptualization
to
completion

•   Excellent
proofreading
and
editing
skills.

•   Experience
in
working
with
foundation
giving
in
a
cultural
non‐profit
setting.
Demonstrated
ability
to

    secure
grants.



•   Must
be
proficient
in
Microsoft
Office
Suite
programs
and
have
had
experience
working
with
a
relational

    database
(preferably
Raiser’s
Edge)

•   A
bachelor’s
degree
is
required
with
two
years
of
development
experience,
a
portion
of
which
has
focused

    on
foundations.



•   Infrequent
night
and
weekend
hours
might
be
required
