Foundation Stone Laid For New Community Health Centre

Burwood Mayor, Councillor David Weiley, has attended the unveiling of a Foundation
Stone for a section of the new Community Health Centre at Liverpool Street, Croydon.

The combined development which is on the site of the former Western Suburbs Hospital,
is expected to be completed by September 2004.

Councillor Weiley said he was pleased work on the project was well underway.

“The Inner City Health Centre is an innovative partnership between the Central Sydney
Area Health Service, and Catholic Health Care to provide a major community health
centre and aged care precinct for Burwood and the wider inner west community.

“It will bring together a range of health services and will also provide a 127 bed aged
care unit with independent and assisted living.

“The whole community will benefit from these additional facilities’ he said.

Bishop Geoffrey Robinson, the Auxilary Bishop for the Arch Dioceses of Sydney blessed
the Foundation Stone, which will be placed in the courtyard of the Health Centre when it
is completed.

Representatives from Catholic Health Care Services, Sydney Area Health Service, and
Bovis Lend Lease were also at the unveiling.
