It is situated on the corner of Nissan Street and Urraween Road, Pialba. It has 24 hour emergency facilities and serves as a referral centre for the Fraser Coast area. Maryborough Base Hospital is an older tower style hospital and is situated on Walker Street, Maryborough. It also has 24 hour emergency facilities and acts as a support hospital for Hervey Bay Hospital. Medical Imaging Unit Hervey Bay Hospital has 2 Shimadzu general rooms, 1 Instrumentarium OPG, 1 16 Slice Philips Brilliance CT, 1 Phillips Pulsera Mobile Image Intensifier, 1 Shimadzu MUX 100 motorised mobile unit, 1 Philips 5000 Ultrasound unit. Maryborough Base Hospital has 2 general rooms, 1 Philips Bucky Diagnost and 1 Shimadzu, 1 Planmeca 2002 OPG, 1 Philips Pulsera Mobile Image Intensifier, 1 Shimadzu MUX 100 motorised mobile unit, 1 Philips (ATL) 5000 ultrasound unit. Both Departments have the latest Computerised Radiography, Teleradiology and Soft Copy Image Transfer and reproduction facilities. Position Content and Clinical Rotation The position will be primarily based at the Hervey Bay Hospital but some time at the Maryborough Base Hospital will be rostered at the Maryborough Base Hospital from time to time. The PDY will have at least six months in the general, theatre and mobile radiography areas. Depending on experience and confidence gained rostering to weekend and supervised on-call duty will eventually occur. The PDY will also be rostered to CT to learn and operate the Unit. Image transfer, use of teleradiology and other soft copy imaging techniques will also be part of ongoing learning. Rostering as an observer to ultrasound will also occur. The Departments’ provide a wide range of ultrasound services including obstetrics, general, small parts, some vascular and both paediatric and adult echocardiography. Services Fraser Coast Health Service District provides Emergency Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, Renal Services, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Theatre (Acute and Elective), Oncology, Allied Health, facilities and Mental Health Services. Accommodation Hervey Bay Hospital does not provide accommodation for Graduate Radiographers completing a Supervised Practice Programme or Professional Development Year. The Health Service would consider granting some accommodation costs for the first 4 weeks for any prospective PDY applicants. Locale Fraser Coast includes Hervey Bay, Maryborough and the hinterland areas. Hervey Bay is situated on the coast about 280 kilometres north of Brisbane. It is a premier holiday destination with good shopping, all amenities, service clubs, hotels, fast food chains, night life, café’s, restaurants and access to Fraser Island readily available. Watching the humpback whales trek along the coast on their annual migration from July to November is also extremely popular. Maryborough situated on the picturesque Mary River around 250 kilometres north of Brisbane and is a town rich in history. It also offers good shopping, all amenities, service clubs, hotels, fast food chains, café’s and restaurants. From Maryborough to the southern coastline there is sheltered water fishing at coastal communities through to Tin Can Bay and the Sandy Straits. Further on to the Rainbow Beach and Double Island Point there are excellent surfing and camping areas for outdoor enthusiasts. Both centres boast excellent sporting facilities and virtually every sport is represented. The hinterland includes the townships of Brooweena through to Biggenden and the North Burnett areas. There are many tourist attractions, picnic areas, boutique wineries and national parks in these areas for those who prefer the quieter country life.
