The PHYTO database is a guide to importing country conditions for plant products
known to AQIS at the time. As importing country conditions become known to AQIS
the database is updated accordingly.

The PHYTO database is located on the AQIS web at www.aqis.gov.au/phyto




The following is a guide on how to use the PHYTO database.

PHYTO SEARCH

The PHYTO Search section is used to locate specific information relating to the
conditions applicable for the export of plant products from Australia.

The PHYTO Search screen currently contains a number of fields which can be
populated in order to conduct a search in the PHYTO database.




To achieve the maximum search result from the database, it is recommended that only
the Country and Form fields be populated.

Both of these fields are populated by clicking on the down arrow          and selecting the
required country and form from the list.


    Hint: To quick scroll through the country list, type in the first letter of the
required country

To run the search, click on the Search icon        at the bottom of the screen.

All restrictions in the PHYTO database will be displayed

All restrictions are listed alphabetically by, in most cases, the scientific name.
To locate a specific restriction case, use the alphabet tool bar hyperlink to list all
restrictions commencing with the letter.

Eg: to locate a restriction for GRAPES (Vitis), click on the hyperlink letter V

Commodities which are prohibited are shown as No under the Market Access
heading




Commodities for which the conditions of importation are the same are listed under
generic titles such as:
       Fruit – All
       Fruit – Other
       Vegetables – All
       Vegetables – Other
       All
       Other



To display the specific conditions for a restriction, click on the hyperlinked text under
the Export Requirements heading

The specific restriction has a number of key components, being:

1/ A summary table of the requirements




2/ General information relating to the specific restriction, including when the
restriction was last updated




3/ Restriction text - which relates to any specific conditions which must be meet prior
to the consignment being inspected and/or certified

4/ Additional Declarations – the importing countries specific conditions which AQIS
must certify to on the Phytosanitary Certificate, including the EXDOC Endorsement
number




5/ Treatment - the importing countries specific conditions of treatment which AQIS
must certify to on the Phytosanitary Certificate

6/ Radiation Certificate – states if a separate certificate relating to Radiation
Statement is required to be issued




In addition, there may also be hyperlinks to relevant documents within the restriction




If there are no known conditions in the PHYTO database, a search result will return
the following screen:

WHAT’S CHANGED

The What’s Changed section displays restrictions which have recently been amended
or add to the PHYTO database.

To display the list of restrictions click on the What’s changed option




The general rule is that the restrictions which have been amended or added will
remain listed in the What’s Changed section for 3 months, however if there are a
significant number of amendments or additions to the database, the list will only
display 56 records.

ALERTS

The Alerts section displays all restrictions which have recently been amended or add
to the PHYTO database.

To display the list of Alerts click on the PHYTO alerts option




PHYTO Alerts are displayed for a minimum period of 6 months to 12 months from
date of issue.




    Hint: To display a specific alert, click on the hyperlinked text under the Title
heading

DOCUMENTS

The Documents section displays hyperlinks to various documents relevant to export
operations.

To display the list of Documents click on the PHYTO documents option

The Contacts section displays details for contacting Export Managers in each of the
AQIS regional offices.

To display the list of Contacts click on the PHYTO contacts option
