THE ARC recreation centre is racing towards completion, with architects Morton and
Dunn appointed.
They presented floor plans to the ARC project steering committee on Monday.
The recent $1.22 million State Government grant which increased the total money for
the project to $2,440,000, has allowed for two multi-sports/purpose indoor courts.
Supporting facilities including toilets, change rooms, kiosk, first-aid and umpires room,
managers office and disabled toilet.
The project located at the Daylesford Secondary College will also include upgrades of
shared community and school assets.
These include squash courts and theatre projector lighting and sound equipment.
Daylesford Secondary College principal Heather McIntyre said students and staff were
very pleased with the promise of the wonderful new facility being ready for use in 2006.
Hepburn Shire Council, Department of Education and Training, Daylesford Secondary
College and project steering committee will meet on Monday October 17 to finalise the
plans which once complete will be available for the public to view at the College and
Council offices.
The ARC is a much anticipated facility which has been made possible by a remarkable
fundraising effort by the community and commitment of funding from three levels of
government.
It will be the largest floor space yet in the Shire for a multi-purpose community building
and will cater for indoor sports, community events and displays and large meetings.
Sports will include volleyball, netball, indoor soccer and badminton, to name a few.
The $1.22 million grant matched $1.22 million already raised including:
    • $300,000 from community fundraising.
    • $300,000 from Hepburn Shire Council.
    • $500,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria.
    • $120,000 from the Federal Government.
Hepburn Council Recreation and Tourism Manager Geoff Ryan said it was fantastic to
see the project coming to fruition.
“This project has got to this stage thanks to the hard work of the fundraising committee
and the community,” Mr Ryan said.
