Acknowledgements Special thanks for their contributions: Steve Garza (Siuslaw and Willamette N.F.s—field work and analysis) Constance Hubbard (Pacific Northwest Research Station, Anchorage Forestry Sciences Lab — OSU McDonald-Dunn plot data) Matthew Hunter (consultant — wildlife ecology) Jane Kertis (NW Oregon Ecology Group—disturbance, stand structure and development) Aimee Lesieutre (consultant—GIS) Sara Prueitt Lovtang (Deschutes N.F.— data analyst/writer/editor) Kim Mellen (NW Oregon Ecology Group — wildlife ecology) Pamela Wright (Siuslaw N.F.— data analyst/writer/editor) Cindy Froyd (Mt.Hood N.F.— disturbance) This interagency project was fostered by the Willamette and North Coast Provincial Interagency Executive Committees. The project was begun by former Area Ecologist Jon Martin (Siuslaw and Willamette N.F.s). The project lost a great deal with the departure of Mt. Hood N.F. Area Ecologist Nancy Diaz, but her contributions were keystones of the analysis. Constance Hubbard and her research advisor, Oregon State University professor and former Area Ecologist for the Siuslaw, Mt. Hood, and Willamette N.F.s, Dr. Bill Emmingham, allowed us to use data collected on OSU’s McDonald-Dunn Forest. The Oregon Natural Heritage Program;s Jimmy Kagan and Susan Hawes cooperated to provide data from non-federal ownership, facilitated by Dave Enck and Rosemary Mannix of Oregon Department of Forestry. Pivotal BLM cooperators include Nancy Wogen and Wayne Elliott (Eugene BLM), Barbara Raible, Roger Monthey, and Paul Jeske (Salem BLM). Strong support from the NWO Ecology group N.F.s was received from Jose Linares (Siuslaw N.F.), Herb Wick (Willamette N.F.), and Tom Ortman (Mt. Hood N.F.). The whole effort was based firmly on the classifications for the Siuslaw, Willamette, and Mt. Hood N.F.s by Ecologists Nancy Diaz and Miles Hemstrom, with Sheila Logan and Christopher Topik. Analysis of the new sampling was the responsibility of Cindy McCain, for whom this has been extremely educational. Special thanks go to our field crews and their stalwart crew leaders: Rachel Schwindt, Ryan Turner, Jenny Allen, Ethan Bennett, Sam Carter, Tina Dreisbach, Kris Freitag, Tara Gordon, Sami Gray, Andrea Gates, Mike Hogan, Rebecca Hurst, Christina Lindquist, Eric Miller, Miranda Miller, Barbara Perrone, Luther Skeels, Trevor Taylor, and Riban Ulrich.
