Search engine optimisation is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a website from
search engines via “natural” or “organic” search results. Typically, the earlier a site appears in the search results
list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. Search engine optimisation affects only organic
search results, not paid or “sponsored” results such as Google AdWords.

+ 93% of Google users do not look beyond the first page of search results.
+ Google ‘sponsored links’ receive only 25% of the total search traffic.
+ Google ‘natural links’ receive 75% of the total search traffic.

Did you know that in 2007, Google revealed on its blog that they made over 450 changes to its ranking
algorithm. This equates to an average of more than 9 changes per week! So, even though your website has
been optimised, it is quite likely that search engine algorithms will continually change and that the change
could adversely affect the way that your website ranks.

Beware of SEOs that claim to guarantee rankings, allege a “special relationship” with Google, or advertise a

hOW lOng DOES SEO takE?

The timeline for the SEO process may vary depending on the size of a website and its complexity. Most SEO
projects can be completed within 15 working days.



WhEn DO i SEE thE rESultS?
Since search engines usually re-index the optimised website within 4-16 weeks, you can generally expect to
see some movement in your rankings starting four weeks after completion of the initial SEO work.

SEO is not a ‘miracle cure’ for your website. Expect results to improve gradually. The indexing and re-indexing
shuffle takes time to settle down. Rankings usually stabilise after about two months. Search engines cannot
be pushed to index sooner.
