Thirty Second Guide to Gimp
If you want to: Do this:
Open Gimp Find the Gimp icon in the Gimp folder in the
Applications Folder
Create a New • Under FILE on The Gimp menu, drag to
Image NEW.
• Set the size of your canvas by
choosing a template or setting
the Width and Height in the
drop down menus.
• Choose Portrait or Landscape orientation.
Add a • Click the Pattern icon in the Tools Window.

Pattern
• Drag the chosen pattern from the
Layers, Channels, Paths window onto
the image.
Use A • Double Click on the paintbrush icon in the tools window.
Paintbrush
• Choose color by clicking on the color
icon.
• Choose brush characteristics from the
Paintbrush window.
• Double-click on image window to paint.
Work With an • Under FILE, drag to OPEN. Choose the image.
Image
Create Layers • Use the Layers, Channels, Paths… Window
• Choose the Layers tab.
• Click the New Layer icon.
• Name the layer by double clicking on its
name.

Enter Text. • Create a new layer.
• Double the Text icon in the tools menu.
• Choose text characteristics from the
Text Menu.
• Double click on the image. Enter the
text into the Text Editor window.
• Change the text characteristics by highlighting the text in the Text
Editor and using the Text Menu as above.
• Move the text by double clicking on the moving tool, then double
clicking on the text.
Change Picture • Choose Tools from the image menu bar.
Characteristics • Choose Color Tools.
